Staley has adjusted for those deficiencies like he adjusts for EVERY deficiency he identifies. The “Static Staley” trope is 180deg off the mark of who he is. He is constantly moving, changing, analyzing, evolving, improving - right in front of our eyes if you just look. He’s replacing the guys he needs to, he replaced his DC. I have read (i think) every report written about the Chargers this off-season, there is zero evidence he is handcuffing Ainsley. Ainsley is calling plays. Where does such a spurious claim even emanate from?
there is a dominant trope that all he did this off-season was hire Moore and Moore is the savant savior to cure Staley. Lol - such silly myopic vision. Staley is the MFIC, Staley is The Dude of All Things LAC. He steers the FO, he steers the Coaching staff, he steers the Roster, he steers the Players. All improvement is Staley derived. Yet the petty jealousy and longing for other ancient coaches who finally did it after decades runs rampant thru the veins of TPB. Andy waaah … Belly waaaah, Tomlinson waaaah.
Belly and Tomlin will miss the playoffs again, forget them - Andy is the hot old wizard of lore everyone salivates over. I recommend all Staley-haters go study The Andy Story, the early years. The full story. Count the seasons until he won a SB, make a cup of tea because it will take a long time to count wayyyyy beyond early years into very late wizard years. Go back to the beginning and study his early years records more closely. Google news clippings of his early years and the expert analyses of his game clock management and late game decisions. Read more about his post-season failings and the accounts of his critical coaching decisions. Read about how many games he personally screwed the pooch on with late game fuck ups. Go read about why Philly finally gave up and (mistakenly) fired him. Go find out who Andy really was before he was “The Andy”. There are no magic perfect coaches, guys.
Andy is a very good coach, I was all for hiring him in the couple hours before KC snatched him up. But Andy is also lucky in KC now - he’s a coach with a motherfucking magician that constantly pulls rabbits out of a hat to save his ass. Andy didn’t win a championship with a game manager QB. He wins with a magic rabbit. Go watch how KC actually won many of their big games the last 3 years. That shit ain’t just genius coaching, it’s sandlot improv voodoo on the fly by The Homie in almost every big critical win.
Everyone knows that, but cognitive dissonances prevents connecting those dots. Let the dots connect. then recognize the good news - we got ourselves a motherfucking magic rabbit too! Herbie is The Golden Magic Rabbit God!“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

When is the last time we had faith in our ST unit?
what about hope for our run-game? I woulda thought hiring a career running backs coach (Lynn) as HC would have at least solved that one specific issue. No.
The defense is coming along slower than many have patience for, myself included, but he's developing a sophisticated system that will give us the advantage overall over complete teams, the teams you see in the playoffs.
I think he's on track to get all 3 phases playing at elite levels.
Let's give the guy time and caffine.

You have to do what you can while addressing the otherside of the ball as well. I think the D is coming along. We'll find out week one against one of the best offenses in the league.
Come on, Miami.

Pete failed in his first stint with a bad roster. His second stint was at SEA, and a couple years after he arrived he led one of the better drafts in NFL history, creating the Legion of Boom and a #1 defense with late round picks in a snap. Strong ground game and wicked defense allowed him to win with a game manager QB that became over-valued. Wilson is not as good as their record was.
Turns out Pete is not the greatest talent evaluator in the history of oblong pigskin balls and not the greatest coach to ever chew gum on a sideline - He's a good coach that hit a huge lucky streak. He's a good talent evaluator like most GMs are good. The hot streak went cold and his team faded back to average as its a really tough league and good is the average.
as a side note, his magical draft turned Gus into a genius DC and everyone started copying his approach. Alas - it hinges on having 5 or 6 pro bowl caliber players that just flat out are better than the offensive players they match against. His "design" is to put them in general positions and let them go play ball. Take away his all-star defensive roster and he's not a great coach at all - aka the Norv Turner of Defense.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

I've done a little more reading on the Kellen Moore zone run scheme. The goal for the 2022 Cowboys was to run the ball more, and run it better. The results were the Cowboys new running game was called resurgent and I'm wondering what collated with what Moore has installed for the Chargers just one calendar year later.
A roster is built in the preseason, after position coordinators finish their tape grades, and make their wish list known to the front office. In 2022, the Cowboys moved to traded away Amari Cooper, cut La’el Collins, franchise tagged Dalton Schultz, drafted Tyler Smith, and added two other tight ends (Jake Ferguson being one) from the rookie pool.
So, the Cowboys acquired the pieces for a sound ground game in April and then coached up those existing blockers in multiple blocking concepts. By November, the Cowboys ground game:- The Cowboys have run to the left 54 times this year, up the middle 91 times, and to the right 54 times; all of those rank in the top ten of attempts in their respective directions. No other team is in the top ten in all three categories.
- They’re running the ball from under center over 2.5 times as often as they are from shotgun; Tony Pollard, in particular, is running under center over three times as often.
- The Cowboys have run a zone-blocking scheme on 52% of their run plays and a gap scheme on 48% of them; only three other teams have a lower discrepancy between zone and gap run blocking plays.
