coupla few other things that am curious 'bout.... am under the assumption that Staley got a 4 year contract ??

am also wondering if Joe Brady turned down the Chargers interview request, or was there another position he preferred ??

will venture a guess w/things in that like McCoy and Lynn, think the likelihood is that we are stuck/enjoy the services of Staley for the duration of his contract, and that we make the playoffs next season, and even win a game, and have a pretty darn good record, albeit not sure how we might fare come the 2024 season ??

and if it's true that Harbaugh is interested in the job, could see his tenure @QB here being no small matter in his consideration, and if he continues to have his way w/Ohio State, think that monkey will be off his back, and even if doesn't win or compete much for the National Championship, think Michigan will be appreciative of what he's done and that he will be able to write his ticket out of there, if he so chooses.

and last, for the if and when it's true that Dean puts the Chargers out for tender, do think it looks a lot better to have a Harbaugh @your helm than a young and uneven Brandon Staley ?? and also, and unlike young John, can't imagine that Dean really wants to stick around much if any longer, as would surmise that retirement and life away from the NFL has an attraction for him.

You know what I'm talking about. One common example: Virtually every move is put through the prism of Spanos cheapness, even to the extent of "This big dollar signing surprised me, because the Spanoses are so cheap."

One thought on Moore for all the doom and gloomers....

He must see something in this team and Staley that you don't or else he would not have jumped at the chance to take this job.

            Consider:
            1. He only talked to the Chargers and signed on immediately
            2. He was a serious HC candidate elsewhere
            3. He would be a highly coveted OC for other teams like Tampa or Indy or Az or Carolina or anyone with an opening
            4. He made a lot of money in Dallas and asked to be let out of his contract there to join our team. He officially did not get fired and the Cowboys are not paying part of his salary. Who knows exactly how it went down, but that is the situation
            5. He spent enough time with Staley and the Chargers in preseason and during the interviews to know what he is getting into and he must think he is getting into something pretty good
            6. As appealing as Herbert is, it would never outweigh the potential of the ownership, front office, coaching staff, culture, and players in a decision like this. If things are as horrible as some of you feel, a guy like Moore would see that immediately and get as far away as he could as fast as he could

My tenure as a charger fan predates the Spanos’ tenure as owners by almost a full decade, yes, most owners are involved one way or another, but a lot of owners also let the football people do their jobs unencumbered…some of the time (not always) those are some of the better teams in the NFL, there are NFL owners that do a great job running their clubs, the spanos are just not in that group, their record as owners does not lie…they are the common denominator in all the dysfunction associated with the chargers since they bought the team…the handling of coach coryell, the hiring of a raider exec to run the chargers, ross vs beathard, marty vs smith, the messy LA move fiasco…etc…

they might not make headlines like jerry jones but they are in the building 24/7 and in the locker room after the games the whole clan is there, you see all these little people jumping in front of players for hugs and and hand shakes while almost getting knocked over by the players, it’s kind of comical…they are constantly around and not all owners do that, some of them have actual jobs, responsibilities/businesses to run outside of their football teams…
Well, not to belabor, but there was one fella who said his theory was undeniable

Staley did get a 4 year contract, reportedly at $4 million per season.

IIRC correctly, both McCoy and Lynn were fired with one year left on their contracts after each got extended by a year. I read somewhere that the team does not like lame duck coaches. So if that holds true, we'll either fire or extend Staley at the end of the season. Since I have high hopes that Moore will do wonders with the offense, I expect an extension. And heads here will explode.

it is a given that the Staley candidates that had been interviewed to date, were underwhelming and then some. and given that Staley's hires were closer to Gilbride than not (Lombardi) and Cottrell than not (Hill), not sure how we are to believe that Staley was the driving force behind his new OC's hire, 'specially given John's early on comments upon taking his post, that he will be "heavily involved" in personnel and the like.

and Moore himself clearly stated that he had talked to "the Chargers," along w/having talked to Staley on the phone, and.... not claiming that I know how things went down, just don't see the logic in excluding the possibility that John Spanos was (perhaps heavily) involved in the hiring of Kellen.
The only time John Spanos said he would be heavily involved in personnel was during the 2017 HC search. Lynn was essentially his hire. I doubt he’s still heavily involved given that certain favored staff members were either let go or stayed on too long. People like John Pagano and Steichen were let go while George Stewart was allowed to stay on.

And while Staley has had some underwhelming hires, he’s also had some good ones like Frank Smith and Ryan Ficken.

I mentioned this before but do you have data showing that money spent on HC reflects success? I doubt first timers like McVay and Shanahan were paid like Bill Belichick or Sean Payton now.

Edit: on an interesting sidenote, since Jerry Jones is so wealthy and pays his coaches so well, I wonder how the Spanos were able to afford Moore’s salary then?

It looks like Joe Brady turned down all interviews this cycle and is staying with the Bills.

Also Dean is relatively young compared to other owners. I doubt he retires any time soon.

FYI, McVay makes $14M/yr. K. Shanahan makes $9.4M/yr. S. Payton rumor is $17-18M/yr.
