Staley and the team had to agree to this, to let Hill out of his Chargers' contract, right? I believe this is more Staley pushing Hill out the door, so Staley could promote Ansley to DC. It does not speak well for Staley that both the OC and DC he chose when he became HC turned out to be failures on this staff.

the defense really has not been good his first two years. Maybe that is partly personnel but maybe he needs to adjust his schemes and play calling

He hired Ansley, Ansley looked sharp, has time in his D,, go for it.
Sharp young minds seem to be a theme among Chargers coaches.
The 2023 results will reflect good / bad choices.
They are either moving ahead or losing ground. Only one way to tell.

I don't know why this is such a surprise. Our defensive collapses at times we're just as bad as the offensive side of the ball. Really can't do worse by giving up a 20 point lead the second half of the Jaguars game. Hill probably needs another couple years of experience before he can handle being assigned an actual role as DC. Both him and Lombardi we're lightweights not ready for primetime organizational coaching and player development.Chiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

Why think Hill gets all the blame? A sharp young assistant got promoted?
HC gets all the blame for everything. I blame him for wanting to improve.

understand the flow of the game on offense or defense
make suggestions to his coordinators about what they are seeing
Now you see a coach like Big Andy - he still calls plays. Does a pretty good job
Rat Face Jr - I think calls plays - does a good job
So there are examples where the head ball coach calls plays for one side of the ball or the other
Marty never called plays
