Offense is gonna be without up to 38 Ekeler type TD’s when he goes (a sucking sound). Even if the O-line improves, TT will have to get very lucky with the run game or even the Spani will dessert him. It could actually get dangerous for Herbert having to throw so much more. I also think the pounding on Ekeler’s body had a lot to do with him asking to look elsewhere, or get paid premium dollars. A request he knows the front office can’t afford. In a way, it’s his way of bowing out without a lot of bitterness that has happened in the past with other players. I bet he departs without all that. We’ll miss him, he’ll miss playing his air guitar for us.Last edited by Caslon; 03-14-2023, 06:03 PM.

I think it will be a tough deal to make. Pretty clear RBs arent cashing in

Sounds about right to me. I dont think a long time Charger who they love reached a trade me impasse because the Chargers wouldnt go up a couple of million to 8-9 million. Do you?

He would make just short of $8M if he stayed with the Chargers. But no contract going forward. So it's likely two issues, guaranteed money and extension.

Not sure you find too many NFL GMs that would take Ekler over Chubbs. Special runner, who would not have been denied in the 2nd half of a playoff game to get a few yards with the game on the line. One of the hardest guys in the NFL to tackle

To tell you the truth, with the pounding over the years Ekeler has taken for this team as an over achiever and not being a physically bigger all down back, I’d encourage the guy to retire before irreversible brain damage sets in. Money can’t buy brain cells.

Does anyone take note that Austin Ekeler's TD's went through the roof when Herbert took over as our starter these last few years? Get it? look at Ek's TD's before Justin was the starter? If Chubbs was our RB it would be crazy. If Bijan is our RB it could be crazy. Go ahead and look it up. Justin Herbert probably has something to do with Ek's production, it just looks bad everyone is restructuring, and Ek is asking for 12 million. The money paid to RB's goes up every year etc. He's 28 if he was a free agent now he would get the bigger contract. Its just the nature of the game.
