    Donald Butler Released

    Chargers released ILB Donald Butler.
The move creates $9.410 million in cap space, but leaves behind a whopping $18.69 million in dead money. Those numbers fall to $4.65 million and $4.63 million, respectively, if Butler is designated as a post-June 1 cut. Butler is just two years removed from inking a "seven-year, $51.8 million" extension — which in reality was a three-year, $19.8 million pact — but was reduced to backup duties down the stretch last season. He's been in steady decline. Butler turns 28 in October.

Wow....big numbers of dead space. I get the move...he looked so promising then fell off after the contract and injury. Perriman is a potential monster though. I wonder if this has to do with an imoending signing? Is Mack able to sign after voiding or is he subject to FA start date? Id swap Butler for Mack any day.

Two reports I read said it's a 9.4 cap HIT not space created. Then another said it creates only 200k in space?

Anyone able to actually figure it out?

Glad he's gone, he just was such a disappointment.

He had a great season. The year before he got his extension.

He's another guy that I wonder what could have been, if he had been healthy. Had injury problems just about every season, that I can remember.

Kavell Conner let go as well, maybe Telesco wants to draft another ILB?
(Which he has done ok with, Teo and Perryman have turned out ok.)
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

They have the Canadian, McCoil listed as a LB. He'll probably fill one of those spots.

One thing I do like about TT, he isn't afraid to take the hit and admit his mistakes with FA and extensions. Sure there is the cap hit, but keeping these lame duck players on the roster is like having the cap hit AND losing a roster spot. Butler definitely flashed potential but it never manifested. I'm sure someone else will scoop him up and turn him into a perennial All-Pro but I think just about everyone here is OK with this move.
