    Apparently...

Why would the Chargers trade for a guy whose contract is up at year's end... wants $12million... threatens to sit-out... when they're $61 million over next year's cap...?

We have 2 RB's on the 2024 roster (Spiller and Dotson). Focus on them... and a RB in the draft (4th/5th round).

      - Ekeler is almost certainly gone after this season and it remains to be seen if the guys behind him can pick up the slack
      - Taylor is only 24 and one of the top 2-3 RB talents in the League
      - It would give us a bonafide 'bell cow' RB that teams would *have* to game plan around
      - His presence would/could open up the passing game, as teams would have to stick closer to the LOS to prevent him from running wild
      - He's a 3-down RB
      - He wants to be traded to a bonafide contender

Now, having said that, what would we have to give up to get him? Is he worth Ekeler and and 2nd round pick? IMO, he is. But the bigger question, and probably the one that would kill any deal, is the contract he'd demand.

      Thoughts?
I don't like what you are proposing, the Chargers are already going to have to make drastic changes to their roster next offseason to manage the crazy Cap situation. Adding Taylor would really fuck things up from a Cap perspective. With ekeler going off into FA in 2024, next year's draft will be the time to think RB in round 2, teams have regularly found some of the top backs in the NFL in the second. We can get one of the top RBs in the draft next year...but all of that might be pointless with Spiller trending upward, Kelley is quality depth, and I think Dotson is a great find...RB room is strong, the chargers will not be entertaining this Cap "nightmare" situation...

Its always interesting to run the scenarios and think what if here, i guess. But someone posted very early in this thread to the effect “I don’t see a problem in the RB room”.

That is the Chargers position, i am sure.

          thats just nonsense

he is holding out and will show up for the first game
The baggage I was talking about is the way he handled the wanting of more money or like a kid not getting his piece of candy I won't play. If the Chargers would've traded for him, if he did it once what's to say he wouldn't do it twice. That kind of baggage.

he has no choice but to show up, no one will give the Colts what they are demanding for him. Not now, maybe next year when he's not holding out...

AND, if the Bolts do their due diligence and thoroughly investigate that RB draft pick's background, they won't have a head case like Taylor either...

Agree...when a RB with one year left on his deal becomes disgruntled and demands a trade, I also consider that to be baggage...

I see a problem in the Chargers' running back room. Overall it is lacking. Those who don't see that are probably the ones who believe we should average 50 passes per game.

f there were a way to guarantee that Taylor could play at or close to the level he did in 2020 and 2021 for us over the next three or four years I wouldn't hesitate to send Indianapolis a first-round pick and extend him. The issue is the injury concerns, which is why I'm sure the Dolphins haven't made this trade already. Supposedly there are six teams inquiring about him. I just hope the Chiefs aren't one of them.

Our backup RBs averaged over 200 yards per game in the 3 preseason games this year. What has been lacking is the coaching.

Very nice. Show me in the regular season and I'll change my mind.

I fully expect the running game to be improved this year with who we have. Would I love a guy like Taylor? Of course, but it’s not happening.

If you were basing your RB evaluation off of last year's production... apparently current preseason numbers don't count..., then the proper sentence structure would be "I SAW a problem in the Chargers' running back room..."

I'll tell you what I SAW last year... I saw Taylor's production dip... along with his health. I saw his TD's decrease five-fold.

If I looked into the future... I see a RB that will want to count $10+ million dollars against our cap next year (when we are already $61 million over the cap for next year). I do not see Ekeler or Taylor in our future.

The Chiefs have $748,000 cap space left for this year. We have $12 million left. Every penny we spend this year... increases next year's overage (as unspent cap rolls over to the next year). I hope we hold onto our pennies this year... we're gonna need them for next year.

There are a lot of expensive players that can be cut next year without doing to much damage. Eckler and JC Jackson are two and maybe a couple more expensive players.
