This whole thing is weird, but I can't help but think that maybe the Bosa side is right in this? I mean, why would he not hold out for the signing bonus to be paid in full this year? That makes no sense to me that the team can defer part of the bonus to next season, why is that even legal with the Player's Union and salary cap structure?

It's was bargained in the cba and now agents are trying to change the cba through contract negotiations.

If the article is true that the Bosa camp isn't insisting on offset language that allows Bosa to double dip, and would accept the bonus paid this year rather than that language, I agree.

I saved a million in taxes this year too by not having a contract with the Bolts.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

How does putting all of the money in one tax year save him any money? He is going to get nailed for the 13.5% both years. Just curious...

He hasn't been a resident of California for more than half the year so he only pays taxes in his home state which are probably a lot less.

                      Residency starts after a year.

After a year or at the start of the next calendar year since he won't have lived here for a year? Sounds like the latter since it's a big deal to him.

I always thought that whatever you earned in that state, you were subjected to that state's tax rate. So if the Chargers gave him a bonus of X millions of dollars up front, wouldn't that still be subjected to whatever California taxes are levied since the Chargers reside in CA?
