don't understand why Mathews thinks he has to launch every single time at goal line now or why they never use the FB dive or other lead back through play on short yardage situations. They had 3 TEs + McClain out there- is this our best "jumbo" group for GL? Why not load up and drive through the middle for a change?Life is too short to drink cheap beer

It's isn't just the not having both hands on the ball. He still carries it fairly sloppily, so that when he goes to pump his arms, like to leap over the pile, or burst through the line, it comes away from the 3 points of contact and is a fumble waiting to happen. It is just one of these nagging technique things.
So far, our OL has been driving the other teams front 7 back, so he hasn't been breaking into the open so much, but the fumbling still doesn't necessarily look like he has fixed it.
It's a pity, because I think he fits this zone running thing we have going pretty good.

At the goal line, I prefer a traditional formation, not a Jumbo package. Runningbacks need more space at the goalline, not more blockers.
However, considering how crap our O'line has been, I'd prefer to have extra blockers for plays that aren't at the goalline. I know that sounds like a backwards strategy, but I think it would work best considering who our players are.Last edited by thelightningwill; 08-25-2013, 12:25 PM.
