Chargers defense showed up last night and played great. Eckler was absolutely beside himself, pacing the sidelines with all those drop passes. Jets fans were way better than I thought. I told my son they are defeated after years of suffering. Chargers fans are just the best in the world. Keenan Allens catch was god like. Stadium was nice. But seemed kind of cold feeling with metal like coloring inside. If AI or the Borg built one it would look like this. Driving in the New York skyline was awesome. Huge skyscrapers sticking up in the skyline. The road outside our hotel had signs for the Lincoln Tunnel. I would not do the NFL Tailgate again. 65 per ticket. Long line for average food. Cans of beer but you could have two at a time. If they had soda I didn’t see it. Talking to Chargers fans was the best part of it. My son just bought a 43 Michael Davis jersey. People asked him if it was Sproles and pissed him off. Lol. I saw a Lance Alworth jersey and thought that was way cool. A tremendous game and let’s keep the wins going!!! Love Freak
I saw a clip of Herbert signing autographs and visiting with fans after the game. Very cool!

Glad you had a good (and safe) time!

It took a while but Smith morphed into an effective QB doing exactly that. Herbert hurts himself trying to stay in the pocket going through all his reads and it just leads to negative plays. He needs to be rushing for ~40+ yds a game for this to be an effective offense
Sounds like a boring offense. More like a dink/dunk or run. You can do this in some games but not all. You need to let the play develop and receivers to get open. I think qb running more will have more risk getting injured/concussion. Unless it is like the Steelers game when they played zone and not watching the qb.

Didn’t JC also gift a ridiculous PI penalty with less than 10 seconds left in the half and no TOs remaining to stop the clock for them in Figgie range and gift them a 3 pt chalupa? All he had to do was let WR catch it and THEN tackle him and the clock runs out. or was that the second game? (Back to my prior thesis - dude doesn’t seem very quick thinking). JC’s brilliance from game to game became a blur for me .. so hard to keep track of his contributions.

you are spot on brah- we were closer to winning 3 of the losses than losing any of the wins. Its all meaningless. the “should have lost x or y” shit is silly - the great Bill Parcells said it very well “you are what your record says you are

Herbert is not going to run unless he has to until his finger is better, and even then, the coaching staff doesn't seem to have it as a big part of the playbook anyway. Having said that, the notion of taking off running if his first read isn't immediately open means he'll be taking off on just about every pass play since none of our receivers get open fast. The real thing that needs fixing is a line giving him time which will allow the receivers time to get open, give him to go through his progressions better and utilize his ability to throw deep. Instead, he is hurried on the majority of his plays, getting hit way too much and forced to get it out quickly.

That statement is the truest thing in all sports. We could be 2-6 or 6-2 if a couple of plays turned out differently either way - but they didn't.

Agree with Dmac - the argument can work both ways. The Chargers are 4-4 - right where they should be

They didn't do enough against the Cowboys, Titans and Fish to win games that they figured out how to do against the Raiders and Vikings

Yes and that's the point. The line is not going to be fixed unless the entire coaching staff and front office are torn down and replaced. The line has sucked for 15 years what makes you think it's all the sudden gonna get better in a few weeks under Telesco? Anytime Herbert holds the ball for longer than 2 seconds results in a negative play more often than not. So he might as well count to 2 and avoid that problem and take off & increase the probability of a positive play.

Playing the Lions is pretty much like playing the Vikings they play very similar styles but detroit is a bit more run heavy. Gotta get them to 3rd and long so you can pressure the immobile QB. Staley has good knowledge of what gives Goff problems as he spent a year practicing against him everyday with the Rams. The biggest problem I see is Detroit is coming off a bye week and we're playing on a short week.

At least you understand the problem: its coaching and other factors not totally in Herberts control and you are telling Herbert to take control

It does. He can't soften the landing with that hand. He's favoring it almost every play.

didnt you see what he was doing regarding the hand when he was tackled on his big 1st down run, when he couldnt slide because he would have been short of the line to gain?
