And the possibility exists that I'll win the lottery . . . . . . . . .Originally posted by sonorajim View Post
Staley will not be canned during this season, We agree on that probability.
Play the season out. Right now the possibility remains of being a playoff team or some kind of total disaster.
My guess is we'll be neither and Spanos has to face having wasted a lot of team money and player skills on a mediocre product.

I would love it if you are correct here . . . . . . . . . . . . . but unless BS does something extraordinarily bad IMO we're going to be stuck with him to the end of the season, and maybe even longer. The Spanii are dimwitted enough that Staley could talk his way into another year (OMG - imagine THAT), just like he talked his way into THIS season after the Jacksonville debacle . . . . . . . . . . . .Originally posted by Velo View PostI don't agree with this assessment. If the Chargers lose to the Ravens on SNF and Staley gets pissy again in the post-game presser, Staley is out Mon morning.
Staley's a superior bullshitter, and the Spanii don't want to spend the money for a high end coach, so I could see them letting Staley convince them that he needs one more season . . . . . . . . . you know - to perfect his system / scheme

I saw it. It sounded like he meant that he realizes now he was holding back, being tentative and non-assertive … not that he did it intentionally as a purposeful thing but more as he realizes now he played unsure and cautious and failed to launch. I think we all have seen him tentative on the field and a lot of folks around here have completed their personal analyses of what that means.Originally posted by Velo View Post
Did you read this story I posted above? QJ says he’s been holding himself back, promises we’re going to see the real QJ going forward. I’ll wager he tries hard v the Ravens after last week’s embarrassment and to avoid being negatively compared to ZF. I hope he doesn’t try to hard.

I’ve still said wait for the kid, up to and including this week. i am still pulling for him, 9 games is very frustrating as a fan, as we have all read and most have posted. But thats just a blink in the scheme of a career and too many folks have selected Q-hate as a release valve for their personal frustration of the entire team.
I sure hope this good kid busts it wide tomorrow, I’d be so happy for him. He is a very good young man and this world has turned cold and brutal on him.Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...

There are some interesting insights in this story LA Times Chargers beat writer Jeff Miller. Players are defending Staley and blaming lack of execution. Though they do acknowledge the complexity of Staley's schemes confuse them.
The Chargers' defense, which is fighting to prove it has improved, will face off with a formidable Baltimore offense led by dynamic Lamar Jackson.
Staley’s scheme is complex and full of rules, the design meant to stress the opposition through disguise. He has embraced the concepts from the perspective of a former college quarterback, Staley having played at Dayton.
But similar to Mack, Marlowe suggested the Chargers at times might be processing more than playing, something that has appeared starkly obvious for a defense too often a step behind.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and time for him to adjust to the NFL before coming to any conclusions. With the caveat that the team needs him now, the luxury of allowing him to develop slowly behind marquis WRs doesn't exist anymore, with Mike Will gone for the season and Palmer on IR.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

Thats why ive said we need to switch to a 4-3 and make things simpler. A 4-3 is more read and react, less thinking. Apparently we dont have smart twitchy guys. I dont know if Fangio runs a simpler scheme since he runs a very similar scheme, but his defenses are always good. Staley must make it more complex is all i can figure......and we dont have a Jaylen Ramsey in the secondary or an Aaron Donald on the DL.Originally posted by Velo View PostThere are some interesting insights in this story LA Times Chargers beat writer Jeff Miller. Adding new guys to a complex defense doesnt help either when a defense is complex. They have to learn it.Last edited by Boltjolt; 11-25-2023, 09:23 AM.

Yep...just one more confirmation that Stubborn Staley's Pattern-Match Defense requires instant processing, and THEN a player still needs to move to the correct spot and match up with the "right" offensive player, all pre-snap...and this also assumes that all 11 defenders will correctly process at the same warp speed and react accordingly...if just ONE defender fails to process and react the way Staley wants, it leaves a gaping hole for the QB to instantly read and gash us for megayards...Originally posted by Boltjolt View PostBut similar to Mack, Marlowe suggested the Chargers at times might be processing more than playing, something that has appeared starkly obvious for a defense too often a step behind.
