    Charger Roster cuts...

Chargers release Deon Butler, nine other players

Posted by Mike Wilkening on August 25, 2013, 9:17 PM EDT

The Chargers announced the release of 10 players on Sunday night, including ex-Seahawks wide receiver Deon Butler.

The club now has 80 players on the roster. It must cut at least five more players by Tuesday, per NFL rules.

The other players released were running back Edwin Baker, center Colin Baxter, cornerback Greg Brown, safety Tony Burnett, guard Brandyn Dombrowski, quarterback Nathan Enderle, punter Richard Kent, defensive lineman Jamarcus McFarland and tight end Dallas Walker.

Butler, 27, had played the previous four seasons with Seattle, catching 57 passes for 611 yards and four touchdowns from 2009 through 2012

Good bye Dombrowski. I'll miss saying Down Brewski when this dude entered the field.

I'm guessing Baker and Dallas Walker are added to Practice Squad if not signed elsewhere. Would rather have Baker on 53 than Fozzy or Hill from what I saw, but maybe Wiz has some pull on Fozzy and wants to keep him.

As Fozzy would say, Dallas Walk-ah Walk-ah Walk-ah.

The difference is pass protection more than likely.

Yawn. You could cut 40 more and still not hit any meat.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

haven't really keyed on any of Hill, Fozzy, Baker in pass pro in games- have you? I was thinking more who could help on STs since they probably aren't getting any snaps on offense. Baker reminds me of Sproles or Todman and Fozzy reminds me of Brinkley or Gartelle Johnson.

Fozzy is a much more agile runner compared to Brinkley. Brinkley was a straight up plodder. Fozzy has an Arian Foster type running style. Hill has actually shown to have the best agility/size combo (to me at least), but he's been awful catching the ball and really no RB on the team will make it if they can't catch the ball out of the backfield.

I would of kept Baker over Brown, but I suspect they like his pass catching/blocking ability.

Fozzy has looked good as a blocker. That right there gives him something the other two lack

Our big Plan B for last year not good enough to make this year's squad. Plan C won't be starting again and on the bubble. Seems like the OL has improved some. Cray.

Something I noticed, even when Baker played.... they always took him out in passing situations/downs.

Hill always came in for him.

                        So either:
                        1. His pass protection is terrible
                        2. He can't catch.

Either way, as good as he was running the ball, and I did like him...they always took him out on passing downs.

I figure they know more than we do.
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
