I think the giving control and allowing the OC to be the head coach of the offense had to be very appealing for McDaniel. Looks like we'll lose Minter but Harbaugh has always built good staffs and is doing the same thing here.

2 years of Roman not “always” but I agree with the rest.Originally posted by richpjr View Post

How can we get Jim on the NFL Competition Committee? 😅
All kidding aside, his one weakness left (now that he replaced Roman with McDaniel) after the last two years back in the NFL is his game management and situational awareness. Just need ways to take advantage of these loopholes better.

what is his weakness, more specifically, in "his game management and situational awareness"? Curious what you see. I've seen a big improvement over prior Charger coaches but I don't mind continued improvement - I'm not deluded to think Jim is perfect or anything.Originally posted by Xenos View PostHow can we get Jim on the NFL Competition Committee? 😅

(and not Jim related) I still think SEA is gonna wipe the floor with the Patriots. It won't come down to an identifiable in-game brilliant move or blunder by either coach - SEA is just going to kick their ass up and down the field old style. One hit and slap at a time.
I'll apologize afterwards if I'm wrong.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

Biggest is when to use a challenge and when to use a timeout. Then being too ************ on 4th downs. Hopefully having an OC like McDaniel will allow him to be more aggressive. I think having an in game coach like what Macdonald uses in Seattle would be nice. I wonder if we can poach Daniel Stern from the Ravens.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

3. Mike Macdonald awarded a game ball to his game-management coach, Brian Eayrs. Here’s what to know about their budding partnership.
When the Seahawks hired Macdonald from the Baltimore Ravens before the 2024 season, Seattle’s new coach tried to bring along Baltimore’s longtime game-management coach, Daniel Stern. The Ravens blocked the move.
Seattle then blocked its outgoing head coach, Pete Carroll, from taking his longtime game-management coach, Brian Eayrs, with him to Las Vegas.
The decision worked out well for the Seahawks, as Macdonald leaned on Eayrs to help implement his vision for in-game decisions. Where Carroll leaned more on his instincts after five decades in coaching, Macdonald has empowered Eayrs to speak up, especially when Seattle is on defense (Macdonald calls the plays, while Carroll did not).
Macdonald awarded a game ball to Eayrs after Seattle implemented an aggressive timeout strategy during an 18-16 victory over Indianapolisin Week 15.
With Macdonald dialed into the defensive play calls as Seattle protected a 15-13 lead in the final 1:07, Eayrs suggested Seattle start calling defensive timeouts to preserve time for a potential rebuttal drive. Teams usually do this out of desperation once an opponent reaches field goal range. In this case, the Colts had just run the ball for no gain on first-and-10 from the Seattle 49 following an explosive gain.
It was second-and-10 when Eayrs spoke up. Macdonald called Seattle’s first timeout at 1:07, its second at 1:01 and its third at 0:52, when the Colts faced fourth-and-2 from the 42.
Indy made the kick to take the lead. Seattle’s offense took possession at 0:42 and drove for the winning field goal with 18 seconds left.
It’s hard to find examples of teams calling multiple defensive timeouts to stop the clock in that general situation: leading by 1-3 points, with the opponent possessing the ball outside field goal range during a drive that started with 3:00 to 1:00 left in regulation. It worked for Seattle against the Colts and earned a game ball for Eayrs.

Harbaugh's grade from his players is troubling to see. I'm trying to make it make sense, especially seeing so many other HCs getting A's and B's. Heck, Kellen Moore scored high enough.- Was it based mostly on his loyalty to turds like Roman ($%#^#$%^) and Bozeman for two straight seasons?
- Was it that modern players yearn for an X's and O's type coach (especially over a rah-rah guy)? I'll be honest, I've never really heard any strategic verbiage come from Harbaugh since he's been here. Yes, culture. And pumping up and family. All cool. But, is he truly coaching them? Is he just relying on his assistant coaches to do that (which only magnifies his putrid allegiance to Greg Roman and the players disdain for him when giving out grades)?
- Was it something else altogether that we can't see?
