Yet if no other team wanted him, JH would’ve signed him, at a cheap rate. Go figure.

The Los Angeles Chargers today signed outside linebacker Chris Collins. In a corresponding move, the team waived outside linebacker Brevin Allen.

Collins played 12 games in 2023 at the University of Minnesota after a five-year career at the University of North Carolina (2018-22). Over the course of his career with the Tar Heels and Golden Gophers, Collins appeared in 54 games and totaled 86 tackles (42 solo), 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery and an interception. He helped Minnesota win a Bowl game last season and was part of a 2022 North Carolina team that posted a 9-5 record and appeared in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game after winning the conferences' Coastal Division. Collins will wear No. 53 for the Chargers.

I read Collins is a guy they invited to mini camp on a trial and he made an impression on the staff.

Brevin Allen must have made zero positive impression on the new staff to get cut so soon.

After an impressive weekend at Chargers rookie minicamp, former Gophers defensive end Chris Collins has signed a contract with the franchise, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.

Collins was one of eight Gophers from last season to participate in NFL rookie minicamps last weekend, and one of seven to do so in an undrafted capacity.

He transferred to Minnesota from North Carolina last offseason and wound up playing 328 snaps for the Gophers, earning a 5.83 grade from Pro Football Focus while playing almost exclusively at defensive end.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, Los Angeles would likely want to keep Collins at the DE position. He will have as many as six players to compete against at his position in order to earn a roster spot heading into training camp this summer.

Good height/size. And the Bolts appear to like bigger players.

I think Woods makes the team. He's killing the tackling dummy.
Staley was an idiot. The kid overran a couple plays and never got another chance. He's gotten more coaching and better this year than he did all 2023

                  Farmer beats out Rumph IMO.

                      Physical football players wanted.
Players who competed at higher levels wanted.
Players who show out and take someone's job wanted.

Not only that, but I'm guessing Woods, just like a lot of our Bolt D, had some real issues picking up Staley's complex Pattern Match Defense...that's the one that can switch from zone to press coverage in a split second, depending on how you read the pre-snap formation and motion...that weird, lame defense was especially tough on our defensive backs...even Derwin complained about it...
