Ladd McConkey last year - what was he - the second or third pick of R2 got 92% of his four year contract guaranteed. All but $800k
I am sure the 59th pick is probably much lower but whatever - pay him the 90% - get him in camp and screw the rest of the league.
So to you point, because of the Hall of Fame game, the Chargers are reporting today and Harris is the guy making news. But the kid reporting on July 22 or whatever is fine because the dust can settle.
if they are at an impasse over 800k, EAIGHT HUNDRED FUCKING K?! are these teams for real right now? how fucking stupid if these kids miss valuable TC time, especially in todays NFL that type of money is a fucking joke, gimme a fucking break already

And by the way, stop screwing around and get Slater signed too.
a lot of teams wait until the season either starts or is about to starts, they know that the players don't want to risk injury before the new deal so they get more leverage as the season approaches...it's the ugly side of the business, the Chargers aren't the only ones that do it either...

it definitely is more quiet, granted today i finally heard something, tre harris is in an official lockout, so atleast i got a taste of some news with the team, ill take anything at this point, just give me something idc
TT's greatest flaw was his inability to create "urgent depth", him and John Spanos never prioritized proven veteran free agents over cheaper low round picks and UDFAs. Year in year out they lead the league in player retention numbers which is a flawed stat if you don't have the winning to go along with it, keeping trash that you drafted for years and years doesn't mean you are drafting well. It just means that you are using confirmation bias to say "look how well we're drafting our guys are still on the roster years and years after being drafted"
now we have a GM that would rather have more experienced backups and leave less room on the roster for "developmental types" 2024 we didn't see a single UDFA retained on the roster. Under TT they were saving maybe 4-5 million in cap space yearly and spending all the cap on 5-6 guys on the roster. Now the approach is spread that money a little more evenly throughout the roster and that's been the biggest key to improving the depth.
As a result TT had a terrible playoff record. Hortiz doesn't corner himself in terms of contracts hence the short term prove it ones.
IF we make the playoffs again it would be 2 seasons in a row with arguably the toughest division in the NFL.

The AFC West is definitely getting tougher, all these top notch coaches in the division now...it's telling when Jim Harbaugh alone plays the role of "scrub with no Super Bowl ring", LOL! Also two of the top 6 or 7 QBs in the entire league and an up an coming QB in Denver too...the AFC West might have the most talented HC pool in the league but not sure it's the best division just yet...

I suppose the owners and player's union might as well agree to specific slotted salaries for all 7 rounds, to avoid issues like this in the future...afterwards, they can negotiate future raises or COLA increases...
