You're checking out the custom rims and tinted windows... while I'm looking under the hood.

We need two things to go right.
First and foremost, we need the re-tooled OL to be as good as Jim&Joe think it will be.
Secondly, we need Minter to maximize the defensive talent we already have.

You're searching for that "lead back" while I'm looking for tough/smart RB's that can follow their blocks through holes. Gus is not a "lead back". He's a guy that can carry the rock 150 times a season... and pick up 5 ypc. He's a guy that has vastly out-played his draft spot (UDFA) and took advantage of the strong OL's that the Ravens provided him. If you pair him with another runner that does the same thing (whether JK or Vidal) you have produced 2,000+ yards rushing and make other teams play you fairly... you unlock Herbert's potential. Game planning has been a cake-walk for opposing teams... knowing the Chargers can't run the ball. We've been finesse far too long.

    We're O-Line Centric now.
We need a lot to go right in the OL too. Leaving aside Slater and Alt, they're going to need Bozeman to step up as well as Zion and Pipkins. All 3 of those guys will have to be better than they were last year. Even with an Oline centric team you still need guys to make plays. And Dobbins health will be key to that as well as the WRs all taking steps forward.

The defense feels more solid but again we will be depending on guys like Henley and Colson to play and play well and oft injured guys like Bosa and Perryman to avoid IR. ST should be a top unit.

Ryan Ficken should be groomed to be HC here after Jim. Whatever it is, the guy has it.

I feel pretty good about Bozeman. He played for Roman @Baltimore and played well. He didn't fit Carolina's blocking scheme. He's back where he belongs. I loved Zion's tape as a guard @Boston College. He hasn't played like that for the Chargers. OL coaching is everything. Time for him to start playing the way everyone thought he would. I was no fan of Pipkins @RT. RG...? We'll see. Again, coaching is everything. Roman got some good production out of guys like Bozeman, Matt Skura, Ben Powers, and Marshal Yanda.

The one year we were fortunate enough to have Frank Smith running our OL... we improved a lot. Even with Storm Norton @RT and Michael Schofield @RG we were able to run the ball under Frank Smith. I believe Roman can make that difference for our OL. He's done it everywhere he's been.

        Protect the QB
        Run the ball
        Play great defense

I think you are saying what I have been saying. Gus is a committee back. Thats all he ever was in Baltimore, except when other backs like Dobbins were injured. For one thing he doesnt catch passes, except rarely.

2025 draft is stacked with stud RBs and we need to draft one. I saw an early mock already that had Chargers taking TreyVeyon Henderson in the 3rd and that would be just fine. He is a step above Vidal for the future. Many other options

I am not, this is clearly a RB by committee with Edwards and Dobbins as the main 2. Just clarifying that Gus isnt or has never been a true RB1 in the NFL. Dobbins could have been if not for injuries. Dobbins has the higher ceiling if he can get past those injuries.

That's a platitude. Every team preaches team football, complimentary football, blah, blah, blah.
More like Dudes look around the league and see how we stack up in terms of scoring which is necessary to win games. We've got cast offs at RB and TE and guys that'll have to step up at WR. It could work and we hope it does.

I pounded the table for Harbaugh and believe in him. Excited to see how it plays out.

by the time they announce the injury list on Thursday we'll have a better idea of who that's going to be, but it won't surprise m to see the usual suspects I had previously mentioned on there...

You are not wrong, a lot of fliers on this offense and a lot has to go right. What makes it exciting is that the Chargers are a complete mystery team. We have never seen a game played with Herbert and his RBs, WRs, TEs. or this OC and his offence. Not even a pre season snap.

Not everyone is a believer. Read this from Dianna Russini from the Athletic this morning:

Hello, Dianna Russini. I need two surprise teams this year from you: one good, one bad. Go.

Dianna: I came with two of each. The good surprises: Chicago and Tennessee. The Bears are loaded skill-wise and have improved their offensive line. Their defense has some juice, with an elite corner (Jaylon Johnson), good linebackers (T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds) and a full season of Montez Sweat, a very good edge rusher. The Titans are the same way; they loaded up this offseason, especially in patching holes on offense. Both teams depend on young QBs, and both Caleb Williams and Will Levis are talented, Williams more so.

The bad surprises? The Chargers and Bills. L.A. has a bad roster, and if they can’t keep Justin Herbert healthy, they will be terrible. They have some big names on defense, but their offensive skill players are weak. The Bills have lost a lot of guys on both sides of the ball. They don’t have a go-to wide receiver, and their defense, where Matt Milano is on injured reserve again, is not what it used to be.
You can say we are unproven at WR certainly, but a bad roster? And while Herbert is by far and away our best and most important player (like most team's starting QBs are), we now have a backup QB that can win games.

                        BOLLOCKS!

As long as the O line does 2 things: create time for JH, and open holes for the RB's, this offense can be successful, regardless of who is playing WR, TE. and RB.

Obviously would be nice to have great route runners, and dudes who could battle any DB for the football. But we've had that and didn't find success because our OL was bad.

NFL games are won in the trenches......I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before🤔🤔🤔

And Hortiz and Harbaugh have built a solid roster, especially given the financial constraints we were under.

Anyway, we start finding out next week, Ms. Russini......
