I sure hope so but I am worried we will be pigeonholed to take a guard at 22 no matter what. These guys are already obsessed with offensive linemen, they dont need extra encouragement ..or to have their hand forced by doing nothing to improve the weakest position group on the team in free agency

Not over yet, trying to be patient, but that is my complaint about FA so far. Down to Teven Jenkins who the Bengals and Giants are figting over and Bechton. One the free agent guards are all gone I am just not sure how a guard is going to magically drop into their lap before the draft on April 24 to avoid the scenario I fear.

There have been 32 running backs over the past decade with at least 1,000 carries and Harris' 3.9 yards per carry ranks 30th out of that group. He has had negative rush yards over expectation (per NFL Next Gen Stats) in three out of four seasons.
Harris has gained 1,000+ yards all 4 years of his in the league...plus he has 1,000+ yds. receiving in that span...he's also a stud in pass pro...what's there not to like about this signing?

HE's the perfect RB for Jim Harbaugh's style of game. But all you care about is 3.9! Mystifying.
lol its not my stat...in the last 10 years he performed 30th of 32 RBs with 1000 carries. Those are just the facts. Sorry i cant change them for you to suit your narrative

The Pittsburgh Steelers who have played power running football for eons longer than the Chargers were fine letting him go after investing a first round pick on him when he could have been signed to an affordable deal. It was telegraphed in Pittsburgh last season that Harris would not be returning for 2025. What does that tell you?

Its not a disaster signing..its just an ok signing...Najee is a durable, big back that can handle volume but he is not dynamic, he is not explosive and he wont really move the needle for our offense. Adding another more explosive RB to complete this backfield is 100% absolutely necessary.

There is only THAT number of BIG humans athletic enough to play in NFL. This FA was/is unique coz the strongest FA was our PON, I can't comprehend we have not signed 1 guard

            What is your point?

I didnt post that Najee hasnt had 1000 yards or alot of volume in his 4 year career. I posted that regarding effiency he is 30th of 32 backs that have had the same volume in the last 10 years. He is a big durable back that will get you what is blocked and not much more... the 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust type

In over 1000 carries his longest run is 37 yards. Think about that. In all those carries he never broke a single 40 or 50 yard run.

He is a reliable, durable, volume back. He is more durable than Dobbins but he is not a better running back. Its an ok signing. But Harris is what he is. Lets not make him out to be more than he is. This is not a game changing dynamic RB.

I'm hoping Najee is a Gus replacement not a Dobbins replacement, let's wait and see.

He is a fine Gus replacement. Good way to look at it.

Which is why PIT let him walk off his rookie deal and are going to just draft a better back.

I think he is an upgrade over Edwards for inside power running. He doesn't bring outside dynamic talent of note. he'll gain less than 3.9 ypc just like Edwards and Vidal did If he runs behind the 2024 IOL, because they didn't block for shit inside and he doesn't have the same ability to bounce outside that JK had.

Its not a bad signing, no. I just don't think it moved the needle much, our rushing problem last year was the blocking and Super-Harris won't overcome more of that same.

Couldn’t the Chargers have found a dynamic back and a replacement for Gus in this draft?

Buddy Ryan once said about Ernest Jackson when a reporter asked “didn’t he gain a thousand years rushing?” Ryan replied “Yea and it took him a thousand carries to do it”

Thats what I was trying to say. It is an ok signing and a good Gus replacement. But is doesnt really move the needle in making our offence more dangerous. The Steeler offense always looked more dangerous and harder to defend whrn Jaylen Warren was on the field. Steeler fans wanted him to play more. I think the Steelers feel better going into 2025 with Warren and a rookie they will draft in a great RB draft. I think Hampton going at 21 is very possible.
