    AND quite the injury risk.

Maybe a contract packed with incentives that goes up next year when we have more room

Saquon would never sign an incentive laden deal -

And the Chargers would already write that type of contract to backload it. But his lack load value will be higher than another player. Give me a good solid RB plus fill a couple more needs over one Saquon Barkley

If you sign Barkley -- what needs are you not meeting? Or are you moving on from a Khalil Mack or Keenan Allen for sure. Barkley at 12m is probably cheaper than Allen and Mack on an AAV basis but that is probably the kind of decision that needs to be made - allocating resources and still need to fortify OL, IDL, LB and CB plus maybe now Allen or Mack

I think the prudent is to go with a guy like Zack Moss - probably half the AAV of a Barkley and get to work on getting some of those other needs fixed

I think Joe Hortiz finds a way to have the money and creative contract to sign a couple free agents. Couldn't he put a good chunk into 2026 or even 2027. Signs a Center for 4/50mil. 16mil sign bonus which is 4 per season. And then put half of that total number into year 4. 25mil. So at that point you cut trade or extend the player. And you only worry about 4mil hit and get 25mil savings. If that how it can work, then Joe can certainly offer a 3/30 for Barkley. 10mil bonus, 15mil guaratees and then have salary of 15mil paid in 2026. Or something around that number. I don't think NFL market is going to offer much more than that anyway for vet RB.
I am guessing it's possible without going into so called cap hell to do it.
Who has it better than us?

For sure, if they sign a bigger money player, they will have to push some of the dollars to the latter two years. Not sure you can push half like you are suggesting unless you guarantee more of the upfront money - like in year 2.

might have to a little longer deal -- the deal above for Barkley is basically 2/15 - probably will need some more guarantees by year 2 to make it 2/22 or something

            makes sense!

we are currently over the cap, but with the increase of 30 million, and cutting, trading or restructturing a few players, there are many possibilities to build the kind of team they seek....

Id guess no FA OC will get that much this year. None of the FAs are near as good as Linsley was.
I'm going to go 3 years 21 to 25 m for a OC or 4 years 28 to 32 m. That's the most we should spend on any FA this year and doubting we will do that.

Conner Williams looks to be the most expensive and he was signed for 2 years 14 m with Miami because that was his first time playing OC and then he tore his ACL and won't be ready to start the season.

If it isn't him the others should cost less.

Barkley would be nice to have but Id be surprised if we sign him. Giants probably going to keep him.

I think they will sign C Mason Cole to a cheap contract and draft a C to battle it out. Either way, they will have a solid backup whoever wins the battle.

Mason Cole could be a cheap option but not sure how much of an upgrade from Clapp he would be

Since released - not part of any comp pick calculation

Yeah, as much as I like the idea of Saquon carrying the running load for the Chargers, it's probably not going to happen.

Any ideas on who's gonna play RB for the Chargers in 2024? A FA pick up and a rookie(s)? A couple of rookies?

In that PFF vid I posted above, they suggest Clemson RB Will Shipley. PFF's big board has him going in the 2nd half of the 4th round.

I think a guy like Zack Moss in free agency

and one of the below in the draft:
                        Braelon Allen WI
                        Wright from TN
                        the USC RB
                        Corum from MI
                        Notre Dame Rb

Cole is the kind of guy, that comp pick thing be damned - is somebody I am going to wait until free agency to see if any options are other there better. If not, and if he is an upgrade from Clapp - maybe

I read somewhere that the money will dry up fast - so there might be some very good bargains out there in free agency. It won't be the tier 1 players but after that initital wave where all the big names sign, might be able to get good value
