And if a Junior Seau type of player is there at 22, do you go LB ?

Quentin Johnston was on pace for 90 receptions, 1400 yards, and 17 TD's (thru first 4 games) until his production "magically" disappeared... Game 4 was also the game Joe Alt got hurt and the whole OL fell apart...
I'd like one more year (with healthy OL) to see what McD could milk out of him.Protect the QB
Run the ball

Make arguments without the “being a first round pick” because that hasn’t mattered for 3 years now. QJ didn’t draft himself. Would you want to dump him if he were a 5th round pick?Originally posted by electricgold View Post
We definitely should try and dump QJ for a burner deep threat wr!
8 to 9 TD seasons from QJ fine! But he has not been good enough in every other area especially being a first round draft pick. Time to upgrade.
What WR are you getting for the ~$2.6M base salary he costs this year? It’s fully guaranteed so cutting him takes that cap hit and you then have to pay another receiver. What are you adding to your trade to get it done, now you’ve declared whoever it is is >>> QJ? A 2026 draft pick? Which one(s)? You saw what Waddle went for, you giving up your first and third for a 4th back? Who are you cutting to pay for that $20M+ receiver?
BTW we have three sub-4.4 receivers on the roster today. What we don’t have is an elite dominant physical X that will swat away DBs like flies and take their lunch money.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

I think when Joe signed Kolar he said he’s not taking a TE in Rd1.Originally posted by Ghost of Quacksaw View PostI'm accepting of the idea that the BPA at #22 could very well *not* be an interior o-lineman.
There are different directions that Joe Hortiz could go in this circumstance: BPA might be a Front 7 Defender, in which case, problem solved!
The *problem* comes if Joe's Board has a BPA who plays a 'less necessary' position, in terms of the Chargers' specific needs. Say, for example, that Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq is that guy.
If- in this scenario-- Joe Hortiz took Sadiq, the reaction on this forum would be chaotic, and range from rational to cataclysmic.
All I can say is that Joe has made solid picks the majority of the time. If Sadiq (or other lesser-position-of-need guy) is the choice? I'm not going to have a cardiac event over it. I would trust that Joe is not an idiot and knows what he's doing.
Besides, if Joe chose poorly? I can always have my cardiac event later.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

When you draft a WR in the first round you expect a little bit more than what QJ has done so far production wise. Especially with Herbert throwing you the ball.
Since we only have 5 draft picks and we need an X I'd trade QJ for a 3rd round pick(would any team even offer a 3rd for him?) and draft either Ted Hurst or Chris Brazzell in the 2nd round if possible and go from there.

maybe it's just me, and.... my thought/sentiment is that yes, would be nice if the any of 'em stepped up.... Marlowe, Del'Shawn, Dye or Colson, and.... just don't see/fathom that as a likelihood, and.... partnered w/the notion that Denzel is unlikely to make it thru 17, let alone 20 or so games, would feel much better 'bout an accomplice for Daiyan ??Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
Are you saying its absurd to think Colson will make the jump to being a contributor going into his 3rd season? This has merit - Colson has done nothing in two years
Or, are you saying that if the 3rd round pick plays to his potential in year 3, combined with improved play from Wax and Phillips, thereby putting Perryman on the bubble - would be a bad thing for the roster?
As for the 7th WR -- the room can be improved from last year -- Ladd is good, QJ, improving, the other four haven't shown enough to say the room can't improve.
what's absurd/inane by my take is any notion of waiting, let alone counting on, a Colson given his history of one season of twentysomething tackles, and hoping/thinking he could round into form, and in turn giving you reason to jettison Denzel, and of which is the same thinking where you'd just as soon jettison Keenan as well ??
and granted, Denzel might be a little closer to on the brink than Keenan, and.... still in no hurry to show these guys the door, 'specially until we have someone to clearly spell them, and....
in the case of LB, think there is some real talent in this draft, and that the timing is good to add one, and given that Denzel is clearly receding, and of which not so sure you can say the same for this receiver class ??
and just reading over the comment that Keenan hasn't shown enough.... @least your consistent, and despite an intermittent attempt to be objective @times....
LB CJ Allen, LT Caleb Lomu, OC Parker Brailsford, RB Demond Claiborne, TE Justin Joly, NT Dontay Corleone, OC Bryce Foster, CB Josh Moten, LB Eric Gentry

I never said he would pass Perryman - I said it would be nice for Chargers, a nice surprise if Colson lives up to his 3rd round status, has a good off-season, a good training campe makes the decision more difficult. And if that makes Denzel expendable -- so be it . For the record, I wouldn't bet on it happening - but just hoping Colson has a good campOriginally posted by beachcomber View Post

As for Keenan - the proof is out there. He is slowing down. For the 2025 season, his ypc were down by a yard over 2024 which was a yard over the previous two seasons. And the last part of 2025, the last half dozen games, he had further decline in his game. He has had an outstanding career - but he is not the same player. And based on last off-season and this one, seems most of the league agrees with me.
