Pre-draft, at this point, doesn't make sense just because you never know who will be on the board at 22. At that point, the question is "we signed KA do we pass on talent at WR?" And that talent is long term for 4-5. Plus it becomes a roster management thin g - might need your WR5 to play special teams. Would TMac play Special teams? Allen won't.

if the draft doesn't produce who they want at WR - fine, give him a call. At this point, he would be a one year or year by year player. A draft pick is the future. I think Hortiz will wait. My guess Joe has a few guys lined up for May 1, post draft.
I know, you have said that. And id agree. This isnt about that. Its for those who say he is too old like he can't play. And its mostly posters on X saying it and a few here. Im not concerned who will play STs. We have a lot of late rounders and current players who can.

This is not a promotion saying we should sign him.

In the salary cap era, no team is out to give a player 4-5 years before they are useful players. Their rookie contracts are up by then! Teams need guys that can contribute earlier when you are paying QB 52 mliion and tackles 30 million.

There is no way their plan was a 5 year project

this still has to play out, but i would not mind picking up KA for 2025 and focusing on other PONs in this draft. we would have 4 starting WR's available (yes, counting QJ), which would put us in a better position than last year. plus, we would go into training camp knowing exactly where we stand with our top 4 WR's (no rookie or free agent "new guy" question marks). the question mark might be our flashy new Rookie TE.

as long as Keenan and Herbert are on good terms, i would not mind seeing him come back and loading up on defense and possibly TE/RB/IOL in the draft (whoever falls to us as BPA).

Not saying it all has to be year one, but dont kid yourselves, if a rookie comes in and impresses in training camp and pre season, and early in the season, he finds his way to more than 26 snaps in a year. Eboigbe didnt impress and looks to be a project. He has done nothing to dispell thoughts that he was over drafted in the 4th round.....yet.

That was the one pick from Hortiz that made me scratch my head at the time, especially with centers sitting there in the 4th.

If we are going to crown Hortiz as a Master Drafter after one draft, we need to be real and objective about all of his picks.
100% this. I don’t know Joe’s thinking, but he did not have a 4 yr development plan. a GM that intentionally drafts guys with a plan for a 4 year development is a GM that is looking for other work before long. There is no such thing as a 4 year development pick in the modern NFL.

Slayer was the one that stepped to the mic for Herbie when popular buzz was saying Herbie throws the ball too hard and it was Herbie’s fault for all of the drops - he said its not a QBs fault for hitting a receiver in the hands - receivers gotta catch the damn ball.

Herbie doesnt strike me as a guy with grudges or problems with players. Doubt this is entering any thinking in the LAC FO.

I don’t mind seeing him back, but I’d still love a Golden blazing at 4.29 in a perfect world of extra picks and choices. Choices have to be made, no idea how LAC will make them.

              ie Pipkins the second.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
              Let’s win one for Mack.

thanks for the info. i was just wondering if there is any bad blood with the chargers/Herbert. hopefully not.

the draft boards keep fluctuating - it seems possible that Golden might still be around at #22. however, picking up Keena would not mean we can't make that move. we would have a loaded WR room - with not much cap space invested in it.

there are so many directions to go in at #22 - and a lot depends on who falls to us (Golden? Loveland? EDGE?).

That's the lesson from drafting Pipkins, and why I hesitate to get enthusiastic about drafting guys who didn't face a very high caliber of competition in college.

Grant is not sure thing there will be better DT at 22 imho.

i will never be sad about a d-line pick.

If we have to take a DT at 22, i used to be on board with Grant, but now I prefer Harmon because we need pass rush.
