The guy I'd like a clone of is Dallas TE Brevin Spann-Ford. He was a 6th round draft pick, think it was in '24. 6 foot 7, 267 pounds. Solid blocker.

The emphasis on trenches this draft was historic. It’s the best I’ve felt about the OL and DL in decades.
I haven’t looked at 2027 prospects yet but the odds look like it could be mostly skill positions with the exception of Mack’s replacement.

Yes. I feel more satisfied with this year's draft crop than most years, seeing how practically every vulnerability the team had was addressed, and in most cases emphatically.Originally posted by Riverwalk View PostThe emphasis on trenches this draft was historic. Joe Hortiz' two year run of success with Day 3 picks is also massively reassuring. It actually seems LIKELY that most of the 2026 draft picks will stick with the team.

Some guys can make the switch, others can't...but I agree that generally it's better to pick a real G with a decent body of work, than hoping a T can adapt to G...Originally posted by Riverwalk View PostThat’s what the Saints thought about Penning. Then they found he sucked at both.
My point is if a guy drafted as a Tackle isn’t good enough so you kick him inside to guard, doesn’t mean he’s going to be any better there either. Look at Pipkin. He is actually a worse Guard.
If I need a guard and there’s two guys available, I’m picking the guy who has demonstrated he’s a better Guard, not Tackle.
I think the news you read about a former tackle that’s drafted that they project as a Guard….doesn’t mean he can also play Tackle in the long run. It means he is only capable of playing Guard in the NFL.

Assessing the skills/ position match in OL isn't for amateurs. As you point out, sometimes the "experts" miss. I'll go with the Chargers current coaches and scouts 'cause they're my guys and my guys have a lot of experience and they listen to each other. They aren't perfect, I'm sure but they know what they're looking for. It isn't just blindfold darts.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post

I'm very much looking forward to training camp, etc and some feedback on our OL starters and depth. I have no doubt that the OL have improved as a unit. None whatsoever. How much TBD. I'm hoping for top 10 or better.

Jim is a common name even in small towns. Say HI to you buddy for me.Originally posted by YAC View Post
Hi Jim,
Forgive me if I've mentioned this before...but one my best all-time friends is named Jim...I served as his best man twice (LOL)...and he was from Sonora, California. A cousin of mine also coincidentally lives there now. (No worries, this won't be followed by a PM asking for money, LOL)
Onto your point: Fisk isn't currently a Charger at all, so no looming borderlines or cuts in his future. But in the past couple of days I've had this hunch growing that the Chargers might sign Fisk as a free agent and bring him back as Tight End #3. I like the player and think he might get a stamp of approval from both Harbaugh and McDaniel.
We'll see, I guess. Cheers.
Ya, I saw Fisk was not a current Charger. We'll see if they pick him.

Three minutes too slow.
With what WRs are getting paid this makes sense. They are showing some belief in QJ continuing to work and improve. It's a positive thing for the team as Hortiz has said he'd rather pay his own guys than FA's. McDaniel likely endorsed it as well. Hopefully, it motivates QJ and he sees it as a reward for his effort

He’s gotten better each season despite some of Roman’s questionable playcalling. He would have had a monster season last year if Alt or Slater were healthy.Originally posted by richpjr View Post
I'm waiting to see what McDaniel does with him before I'd come to this conclusion.
