His stats are nothing to write home about…how did he make two pro bowls? QJ has more TDs on less touches"The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. His rookie season was pretty good, and he also made it after his second season. Making the Pro Bowl 2x set him up for the Franchise Tag level performance tier. QJ didn't make the pro bowl and did not meet the snap count threshold for Tier 3, so he's getting paid at Tier 4.Originally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post

Comparatively, QJ is a bargain, but I'm sure that him getting paid 16M in 2027 is probably going to rankle some here. He still has time to earn a big contract with a great season.

Happy for QJ. I didn't think they would pick up his option, I thought they would let him play out his rookie contract this season then based on his performance this year make a decision whether to re-sign him. But they made this decision and I guess it means they have a high opinion of him and believe he still has a higher ceiling to reach. I'm happy to have QJ as a part of what we're all anticipating will be an elite offense starting the season. As noted, McDaniel must be a QJ believer. But they could still trade him, his total cost of this season and next is abt $21M, which is a relative bargain for the Chargers or any team acquiring him.

For the remaining 2 seasons on his contract he will cost a total of just under $21M.Originally posted by Bolt-O View PostComparatively, QJ is a bargain, but I'm sure that him getting paid 16M in 2027 is probably going to rankle some here. QJ is clearly valued more highly in house than he is in outhouses, like fan forums.Originally posted by Velo View PostHappy for QJ. No fault of his own, QJ doesn't possess the particular trait that has been missing from the Bolts' wideout room: defense stretching speed. Many here have held that against him, despite his improving notably in each of his three seasons so far. He'll never be a burner, true enough, but it's not like he hoodwinked anybody and falsely claimed to be the speed merchant that he ISN'T.
You can't please EVERYbody, and QJ doesn't! lol

Fouts2herbert, brutal when the quote button doesn't work but to respond to your "How so", yes he's a Charger at least thru 2027 because they exercised the option. if they had not done so it would have been a Zion/Oweh situation where they risk losing him

If we didn't pick up his 5th year it would have been deflating. Might as well trade him to a team who cares. At least psychologically he's got a two year runway to prove himself as an up trending player. We don't need any more holes to fill and most likely have more than enough money next season to pay him.Originally posted by jamrock View PostFouts2herbert, brutal when the quote button doesn't work but to respond to your "How so", yes he's a Charger at least thru 2027 because they exercised the option. if they had not done so it would have been a Zion/Oweh situation where they risk losing himChiefs won the Superbowl with 10 Rookies....

First, I like QJ the person and I root for him. He seems like a good kid and he has gotten better each season. Second, I really hope that McDaniel watched his stuff and told Harbaugh and Hortiz "you guys have never used him right" and has big plans for QJ. He is very physically talented, especially on crossers and drags which for some reason neither Moore nor Roman ever would consider. He is a YAC guy not a post runner. My hopes remain high for him.Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

Let them get rankled, the QJ hate has gotten so dang weird and irrational to point where it's just like okay, I'm just going to ignore it because it doesn't make sense and no point in even trying to get folks to change their way of thinking...no matter how much evidence is out there to refute the whole "he's a wasted pick and a bust" stuff...Originally posted by Bolt-O View Post

as for the 16mil, it's a pittance by todays standards, there are guys out there making a lot more money than that and I wouldn't trade QJ for any of them..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. we have a very inexpensive WR room, like 4 years ago we were paying two guys like 45mil per year and even with this extension the APY for the entire room is probably less than 15 mil a year, no, I haven't done the math but they are all on rookie deals so it might even be less than that...Originally posted by Velo View PostHappy for QJ. as for the possibility of a trade this option thing makes QJ even more attractive to anyone who would want to acquire his rights...so yeah, while I'd like to think that this means that they have committed to him going forward this could also be a way to extract higher compensation via trade from a team interested in trading for him...I guess we'll know by the end of training camp...if they don't trade him by final cutdowns then I think he's a Charger for the next two seasons...after that it's anyone's guess..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post.
