Harbo isn’t gonna be butthurt about an 8 yr old OSU/UM rivalry smack talk blurb. He’s got laser focus on the future, not ancient all-in-fun past ribs. It’s just silly nonsense imo. If he thinks Bosa is gonna help HIS team now, he’ll want to keep him. If not, he’ll make some sort of move. I am leaning to predict he thinks Bosa will help but time will reveal all.

I am blown away with how smart he is building his staff. Blending solid experienced wise veteran coaches with young smart high-potential risers, it’s unlike any staff build our team has ever seen, maybe not since the 60s Sid Gilman era. He’s got a 4th-dimension vision … our future is in good hands. I trust he will apply similar strategic mastery to the roster decisions.

The bottom line is he wants to win in 2024. Not 2025, not 2026, but now. He’s said it consistently and with conviction. It’s his DNA, there is no other Harbaugh. Hortiz is lockstep with his vision, I am sure it was a discussion point of 2024 perspective in the interview process, as he emerged as GM with the exact same mantra. They are not gutting the roster. They will trade a Mack or Bosa or whoever only if they think the return can improve the 2024 roster more than the loss.

now, would a starting LB, starting RB and a backup edge improve the team more than one of our two edge starters - if they got such an offer, made such a calculation, they’ll weigh it all out. Thats the reason I dont know what they’ll do - I don’t know the options they will have or analyze. But they aren’t just cutting players for cap, no ripping bandaids, as they say. My calculation is they only need to cut one big name - Williams - with other lesser moves - to get into 2024 cap compliance. They’ll push the rest of that fucking cap bullshit out into Long Beach harbor and not look back.

what they COULD decide to do, in lieu of Mack or Bosa, is sign a younger top FA to a 4 yr deal:

          Josh Allen
          Brian Burns
          ?

They will be $22-24M+/yr Avg but are young enough for a 4 yr deal - 2024 cap can be under $10M but thats just another version of pushing cap that no one wants to do with Mack or Bosa but it brings fresh edge meat into the mix. Something to ponder …

            Could... should...?

He'll be 33 next year. $15.3 million in already-paid restructure.
            Extended how long...? 2025? 2026?

You'd be paying a 35 year old DE $27+m a year. Are you sure he'll still be getting you 16 sacks per year...?

Take the $23m and a draft pick.

totally, i am sure if some reporter talks to Harbaugh about rebuild mode, he will just give them a blank stare like "WTF are you talking about?".

also, your post is far too rational and sensible, please find a new message board, you don't belong here ;-)

Now if the foot was related to the foot surgery he had in 2018 (it was not)... then I'd be worried.
The position is hard to replace (premium position). Which is why you keep one of the two players.
Injury is impossible to predict... so you look at the age and the contract structure.

                  I personally like Mack over Bosa. This isn't a love/hate thing. It's a business decision. It's a cap decision.
not To Minimize a Sprained Foot in The NFL, but that is the point.
He has had multiple injuries that could lead to another. Mack had an Injury that made him miss half a season before coming here. He came here and Balled out and is at the top of his game.
it will be easier to fill in around Mack & Tuli.

The goal is not to build back cheaper, it’s Build back better. How do Chargers pay Mack & Allen so we can compete next two years while the rebuild other spots.

He doesn’t have to get that many sacks if he is able to get lots of pressure. The will find the help to get more sacks.

And will whatever cheap FA/rookie be anywhere near as effective? Nope, why you pay him the big bucks.

What does Bosa count against the cap - 36.6 -- not much difference - plus he has even more dead cap. Bosa is a net loss - he is not worth paying on more dollar too.

simple question - of the two, Mack or Bosa - who would you prefer to keep?
