Thing is, they have to have 53 players on the roster by a set date, right? So they would need to replace him and I think most players would cost more than him. I could see setting him loose because he sucks, though!
I think the new coaching staff needs to at least see what they have in Woods and Spiller before releasing them
And in reality, the true cap savings is like $400k as they will be paying somebody on the roster at worst the league minimum. Now, if they do it - I won't lose a wink of sleep but I do think have to at least get through OTAs and off-season drills.
Ben Herbert has many players to work with : Rumph and Matlock but I think Woods too.

Yes, but we have to get below the cap soon and there will be players available that are better for near or at his salary. Woods is a finesse player who doesn’t seem to fit Harbaugh’s tough guy model.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

I would agree with this, especially for the money. Did the nature of Wood's illness/injury ever get made public?
Instead of trying to find a way to keep all of our overpriced vets, would it be a better approach to trade away or release: MW, Bosa, Mack, Murray, etc...... to give us cap room so we can add several mid range FA's who give us more bang for the buck?......maybe we only rework KA and DJ to lower cap hits.....

I don't see them moving on from MW, Bosa and Mack only to sign a guy like Simmons who would probably be pretty pricey. Gilman will be cheaper. Simmons has been a very good player, good teammate by all accounts, in the community but moving forward, is the the same guy he has been.
Plus - Allbright thinks he wants to go to a team that can win as with Denver, zero playoffs in 8 years.
Well OTC lists him signed for $985k - so my guess that is the RFA amount. He was outstanding last year. Maybe OTC is just assuming he will be tendered - which he should be 100% - even if it was like $2m tender - he is worth. One more cheap year for Dicker and next year, he will get a nice raise
