Probably because Simmons will demand too much money for his services. The team re-signed Alohi Gilman, and he isn't exactly a bad player.

Jefferson had an ACL and then played a little bit after recovery and has been retired for what is it, two years? He is a GREAT clubhouse guy and he has played a lot of football. I think best case, it is sort of like when Lonnie Young was signed to play on the Bobby Ross teams. A smart, teambuilding safety who won't make big mistakes but won't make big plays and is kind of limited now so don't want him playing a ton. But he is better than Woods and Finley at this point in their careers and might really help them reach their potential.

Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

Plus, I think we just can't afford him...

If Jefferson stays healthy, I'll feel better about our FS room...Woods still a big question mark...

Jefferson is 32 y.o., last good season was 2018, hasn't played much since. Up and down with other teams, retired a while..
He has a chance to make #5 S out of DJ, Gillman, Woods, Leonard, Finley, Dent, Harper, Phillips if he looks closer to 2018 than any time since in his tryout.
I wish him luck. He'll need it.
I'm definitely in wait and see ... an aged safety thats been out of football for a year ... hasn't played a full season since 2017 (or 2018 14 gms) ... reportedly ran a 4.75 40 in his prime ... uh, idunno? Excited? no. Eastlake High kid from CV ...

I'm still betting on Woods or Dent beating both of them out for now, but as always - COMPETE. TJ looks like a very long shot to me.

Re: F21 - not sure the dynamics that led to his tryout, maybe it was TJ's agent asking for a tryout and Joe said, ok, but no promises beyond that. to quote the late great Sgt Schultz "I KNOW NOTHING!"

I honestly don't expect Jefferson to make the team. I think the point in signing him is to bring in a guy Hortiz trusts to show the young guys how a pro competes.

So if Woods, Finley, or anybody else becomes a better player because they competed with Tony Jefferson? Mission accomplished.

Justin Herbert has been the subject of critique by fans and the media alike. Now, his own former Chargers teammates are joining in.

He hasnt played in more than 9 games since 2019. Nothing wrong with giving him a tryout if he ants to see if he can still play but i dont expect much from him. And yes it appears someone like Simmons isnt in the plans, which i figured but i still still idiots on Twitter saying we should of traded for Jefferson or we should sign Higgins. Some fans have no clue a salary cap exists i guess lol.
Trade down 2 times. Hortiz said he hopes to get more pics!

Per 2013 Walter Football draft profile, Tony Jefferson is a good wrap up tackler.

That is what we are looking for.

Much better D AND a run game on offense. The famous Jax 28-0 loss could have been averted with a few successful runs. AND some 3rd quarter offense of any kind. Herbert is the 3 and out king of the NFL in 3rd quarters- something I blame on play calling and lack of run offense.
