Ginn went ninth. Patrick Willis went 11th. Marshawn Lynch 12th. Darrelle Revis 14th.

    Awful pick by the Dolphins.

Four Hall of Famers in that top 15, with Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, Willis, and Revis. Adrian Peterson was taken seventh, and I think he will be the fifth Hall of Famer. Johnson, Thomas, and Revis were first ballot. I think Willis should have been, too, and Peterson will be in 2027.

I'm still mad at Jim for putting not only us fans thru that but also for putting Herbert and the offensive players thru that...I know Roman is Jim's friend but he's a petty dude with delusions of grandeur, the way he went all passive aggressive on benching guys without any explanation, no rhyme or reason, the way he talked about Harris and the Burger King nonsense is just borderline sus, but also showcased how overinflated his opinion of himself is...he was all entitled because his friend got him a super coveted job when nobody and I mean NOBODY was trying to hire that man to be their offensive coordinator and Jim brings him in to work with one of the best QBs in the NFL, I love Jim, I love all the quirky shit, he's like the Columbo of NFL head coaches, he's smarter than he let's on with this goofy shit, but with Roman he let friendship cloud his better judgement...

I think you're being way too overly dramatic.

Jimmy Johnson had David Shula as his offensive coordinator during his first two seasons with the Cowboys. He moved on to Norv Turner in 1991. They won the Super Bowl with Norv as offensive coordinator in 1992 and 1993.

Tom Coughlin had John Hufnagel as his offensive coordinator for the first three years he was with the Giants. He fired Hufnagel and replaced him with Kevin Gilbride. They won the Super Bowl with Gilbride as offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2011. Coughlin also had Tim Lewis as his defensive coordinator his first three years with the Giants. He fired him and replaced him with Steve Spagnuolo. After Spagnuolo left following the 2008 season, Coughlin replaced him with Bill Sheridan. The Giants had one of the worst defenses in the NFL that year and missed the playoffs. Coughlin fired Sheridan and replaced him with Perry Fewell. The Giants won the Super Bowl with Spagnuolo in 2007 and Fewell in 2011.

John Harbaugh had Cam Cameron as his offensive coordinator from 2008 through Week 14 of 2012. He fired Cameron when they were 9-4 in 2012 and replaced him with Jim Caldwell, and they went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

I'm sure there are other examples of highly successful coaches who made mistakes with the coordinators they hired initially, adjusted, moved on, and won big.

Roman has been gone for over three months. McDaniel is now in his place. It's well past the point to move on.

Can u imagine McD giving a Harbo-style rah-rah locker room speech? "Who's got it better than us???" Maybe not that exactly, but I can imagine him saying post-game, "Okay guys, I said if we won, I'd take off my shirt..."

I have another take instead of your halo effect.

Its WTH did he allow Roman to be hired and in charge of this offense for 2 years???
Not sure about Roman in the abstract 3rd person “they” context - pretty sure it was JIM that personally selected Roman, not “they”. No doubt based on his success in SF. It was his biggest mistake to date, he let it ride after year 1 because he bought into the cap hell dig out, lack of weapons, fill in blank…excuses, blah blah … and after year 2 he fired him. No doubt he got strong feedback and inputs to help him get to his decision. Or thats my guess.

Joe’s biggest mistake was OL. signed a solid OC and just drafted FOUR OL players - cleaned out the OL house outside of his 2 stud OTs. he’s trying to fix his biggest mistake too while staying as true to his model as he can. Now we see his plan. Will it work? Prob needs 2 of the 4 to be fairly play-ready this year as either starter or key bench sub, other 2 can have time to develop.

Both top leaders are showing by actions their assessment and accountability of their performance - even if they won’t offer confessions on TV. “11-6 … pretty good” - they know it wasn’t good enough and its not the goal.

That is my bet too, though I’m more gracious on the rest of your post. Jim made the mistake to start, he then either bought into or told himself reasons that year 1 was not the ceiling - they did go from 5 wins to 11 in one year. Year 2 he accepted and owned his mistake and took action, even though he could have leaned on the “OL” for another year. I’m giving him credit for what he’s done as of today and not dwelling - nobody is perfect.

Some have said MM won’t get another HC job because he’s not alpha enough so I referenced Cam as an example of winning versus alpha when it comes to HC offers.

But I get it….subtle doesn’t work for everybody.

Who was available two years ago that Harbaugh knew? McDaniel is a bit of a leap for him, the two never working together ...Hortiz and Harbaugh had to be on board. They probably both were on board with GRO, him being a Raven guy/

Allthough Harbaugh is the head coach, and it is his coaching staff, I am sure he seeks alternate oppinions.
From Hortiz standpoint, how easy/hard is it to bring in McDaniel guys in the draft/free agency.

I imagine both Harbaugh and Hortiz have veto powers over the others decision making ... both need to convince others.

Hortiz and Harbaugh are likeable guys, and I think they work together really well, and know when to back off.

Harbaugh had the reputation for pushing his oppinons a bit too strongly in San Francisco ... maybe he has mellowed, maybe it was Jed York propaganda.

I say this because I heard the New Orleans GM calling one draftee who fell, and basically telling him that he should feel slighted, and that he should be extra motivated to prove himself against those who were drafted higher, in the most awkward fashion.

Hortiz and Harbaugh were the polar opposite to the New Orleans GM/prick.

I'm sure Jim probably asks opinions, but I believe he has authority in selecting his coaches. Buck stops.

You're not asking if there were any other possible OCs 2 years ago, are you? Gro was a Raven guy yes - he got fired by the Ravens. I was very surprised his brother didn't counsel him more emphatically - I thought family was everything for the Harbaughs. Felt like Jim set his lil bro up a bit to be honest.

Jim definitely seems to have mellowed from his SF days. Learned from it, it seems. Joe is a better mesh for him too. I think he's more comfortable setting up the swim lanes and trying to stay in his. The whole batman/robin stuff and all that ...
