There is more to the position than catching passes. Kolar signed a three-year contract on March 10. Gadsden is going into his second season and looks like an ascending talent after a good rookie year. Njoku signed a one-year deal on May 11. If Njoku was expected to be ahead of Kolar on the depth chart, I think Njoku would have been signed before Kolar, not two weeks after the draft.

The other way it can be viewed is they already had Kolar on the roster and said “oh shit - we need another quality TE weapon and all we have is a one-year rookie who faded to end 2026 once defenses knew to pay attention to him, and we didn’t get one in the draft”.

They did go and sign Njoku after they already had Kolar. Its a good problem to have imo.

Everyone who is losing their mind that someone is missing volunteer workouts, maybe never got to spend time with a dime. This is much to do about nothing, when it’s go time, our qb will be ready, when hasn’t he been ready to start a season…

It indicates to me that the Chargers, primarily Hortiz, Harbaugh and McDaniel consider Njoku a solid addition.
Personally I don't feel any need to judge any farther. Glad we have some talent at TE, glad to let the coaches sort it out.

Probably not the best example to make your point. Brady was already 18 years into his career and had a handful of rings when he skipped voluntary OTA's based on the links in your post. If that was the situation here i doubt anyone would object

Injuries happen and we need depth. Who starts and who sits will be worked out over the course of practices and game performances. The sequence of when guy was signed shouldn't have any bearing at all on it.

Maybe but it was stated that Brady never missed because he was one of those obsessed types. I can give more examples, but Brady was the one mentioned. He did do it in NE and he did it with TB which was a new team. He didnt have McDaniels offense there. He had Arians offense. Im just pointing out that many players skip them that we dont even know about but all we see here is guys complaining that Herbert isnt there at meaningless voluntary workouts where they arent doing anything meaningful.

Just because we dont have any rings doesnt mean he needs to be there handing off to a new RB lol. He has handed the ball off thousands of times to different RBs. There is PLENTY of time to do all that in TC and mandatory OTAs coming up.

They havent forgot how to play football and last year Herbert got the crap beat out of him from the worst OL in the league. Let him do some things that make him happy so he comes back with a great attitude instead of calling him a turd that has no rings and needs to be here.

He ain't reading PBs and someone would have to tell him about Pops. He would listen to Harbaugh and McDaniel and their remarks about Justin are extremely positive. Maybe a little embarrassingly so. Herbert's good. Pops and PBs are just embarrassing themselves.
