Staley is not a HC or DC. He was given a lot of leeway in assistants and players. Special teams was the primary unit that improved on his watch and that was basically Ficken.
Mack had a great year. That was all Mack. Run D got better. Not good but better. Pass D was garbage. Consistently. '21 to '23. Scoring D went from weak to bad.Chargers offense went downhill.
Staley needs to work his way back as a position coach. Focus on that job and do it well to earn another shot at DC. Put some good years on the record. He was crap as a 1 year

I think he would be a better DC than HC. Some people are just wired that way. Dan Quinn is another good example. Look at his defensive stats as DC vs HC. Night and day difference.

If Quinn tries to call plays as HC, then the Commanders’ defensive stat probably won’t look great. If he lets Whitt do it, then maybe everything will be fine.

Staley probably got it because he turned the Rams defense around completely in 2020 after the regression they had under Wade Phillips in 2019. Also the McVay tree is pretty popular. Staley probably needed at least another year of seasoning as DC like Macdonald did under the Ravens, or even McVay did under the Commanders.

There are a LOT of ways to do resistance and endurance training. I have family that are pro trainers who can discuss systems until your head spins.
The Turkish Get Up was an interesting variation Herbert used to challenge Mich players.
Harbaugh, among others liked what he brought to the Mich program. a lot.
It's fair to assume there will be group exercise, position specific exercise and individual programs.

Herbert is big on protocols that minimize injuries and minimize the severity of injuries if they do occur. That alone would make a huge difference.

Who was the GM? Tom Telesco. Staley had a power trip. A better GM would have told Staley that what he's doing isn't working. Telesco just lets the HC do whatever they want. And how he operates is why teams under him have failed and never produced a division title. And lets not forget Lynn. Who was horrible.

People talk about Staley's credentials/qualification. Lynn was just as bad, if not, even worse. He only had one or two weeks of experience as an interim HC with Buffalo before being hired by the Chargers. He should have been fired during the season like Staley did/was. The organization had flaws and has been a mess until Dean and John came to their senses.
