    Spot on.

I like the “deep threat by committee” approach, much like how Steichen designed with Guyton & TBilly back in ‘20. We all remember those two combining for over 900 yards, 48 catches, and 6 scores that year (18.8 & 19.9 ypc averages, respectively). Not bad for a couple of UDFA one trick ponies. The new guys may not be household names, but it’s not a stretch to say that some combination of DJ, QJ, DD, or possibly even Corn Johnson will be at least as capable as Guyton & TBilly were back in ‘20. Add Ladd, who can definitely cook down field as well.

Rotate those fresh legs and have them run deep routes or block. That'll take some steam out of opposing CBs.

Interesting points from Matthew Berry's "100 Facts You Need To Know Before You Draft In 2024":

"18. Over the last two seasons, Justin Herbert ranks 22nd in TD rate.

          19. Last year, Justin Herbert had career lows in pass attempts, passing yards and completion percentage.

          20. This offseason, the Chargers lost 66% of their receptions and 63% of their receiving yards from 2023 when Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler and Gerald Everett left the team.

          21. This offseason the Chargers hired Jim Harbaugh as head coach and Greg Roman as offensive coordinator.

          22. In eight of Roman’s 10 seasons as an offensive coordinator, his offenses have ranked 27th or lower in passing offense.

          23. During Jim Harbaugh’s tenure as a head coach in San Francisco, the 49ers ranked second in rush rate.

          24. And 31st in pass attempts."

-AND- (later in the article and for you FFB geeks like me)

"93. Between Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler and Gerald Everett, there are 320 vacated targets from last season on the Los Angeles Chargers.

          94. Heading into 2024, Josh Palmer is the only WR on the Chargers’ roster who has caught at least 40 passes from Justin Herbert … in his career.

          95. In 16 career games with at least seven targets, Josh Palmer averages 14.4 PPG.

          95A. Last year’s WR19, Chris Olave, averaged 14.5 PPG."

I'll ride the wave...where it takes me.

It is good that the Chargers are emphasizing Red Zone work thus far in 2024.

I have seen this from several media people and while we all understood the trainwreck of Staley & Moore last year, any QB missing 4 games with a broken finger won't have as many attempts or passing yards as when playing a full season. Strange to bring this up as a knock without the proper context.

Hey Utah, do your leagues value passing yards ?

Herb is heading for rarified air in passing yards in his first several seasons.

Right on, Rich. Also when Herbert did play, he played a bunch of games with the finger on the other hand all messed up and it messed him up. And the season prior he basically played with broken ribs the whole time. So 2022-23 should look below average for him. Makes sense.

But I do agree that the days of Herbert throwing 50 passes a game only to have the defense let him down are over now that Harbaugh is here and Roman will be gameplanning and calling plays the way Harbaugh wants.

Agree. Herbert won't have to be superman every single game for us to win. Can't wait to see him light up people on play action behind a good running game.

I would add that this Defense is very likely the best in Herbert's NFL experience.

Agree, and they never mention he was hurt and missed games. Just that his numbers weren't as good.

Also Roman hasn't had a passer like Herbert. He had Keapernick and Lamar. We will run but I believe we will pass more than he has before
