Thus far, everything Roman said was going to happen, has happened. The offense has gotten better each week. The offense would need time to jell. The offense would take time to find itself. Red zone efficiency is usually the last thing to improve because you are dealing with tighter windows and smaller margins for error. They have mostly only run for touchdowns, because of the difficulties with passing for touchdowns in the red zone.
Roman isn't the problem. I think people want to view Roman as a problem because they want to be proven "right" after what they said during the offseason. Heck, I may even be one of those folks. But I highly doubt in week 17 we are seeing these same issues. You are about to have teams have to again respect Herbert more and that is going to help the running game. It is all coming.
The last thing that would help this offense? Herbert being more mobile. Last night, a more mobile Herbert, gets this team in the end zone. He just lacks that ability right now.

This is game 6 in a new season with a new coaching staff, new players, new GM, and a new approach. This is a team coming off of a 5-12 season, that has had salary cap problems and a lack of talent due to 10 years of ineptness by a prior GM. This team is improving. Herbert is showing the ability to move the ball, even without Allen, MW, and Ekeler. Saying that, the team still lacks talent at center, interior OL, wide receiver, secondary, linebacker, and DL. There are tons of holes here. I am not one to beat up Roman at this point, as I see the offense getting better and better. They need to put up more points, for sure. But it is coming -- and this team will be better at the end of the year than they are now. Are they a playoff team? They shouldn't be. But they are heading in the right direction. If you see this as a transition year -- which it is -- then I think the focus should change from wins and Super Bowl hallucinations, and instead on the team growing, players developing, and players gelling -- then I think there is a lot to look forward to.

I don't think Roman was the right hire for Herbert or this team, but with that said I can't blame him alone for the offense. I don't think any OC would be successful with the current group Herbert has around him.

I am not dismissing our performance @ AZ but...
Every year there are games that are close. They get decided in the final segment. One or two plays are key. The officiating is involved.
Some teams eek out wins in games they should have lost.
I have wached the two successive plays, Hart's personal foul, and Conner's catch and run, too many times to count. It was again very close.
Hyperbole about staff and players is a fools errand.
We would be wise to cut this whole thing some slack. It will happen again. and again...this season...and every season.
Let it grow.We play modern Harball.
