Roman is a really good OC. Just look at the 1st have of the games we have played. That's coaching and game planning. The 2nd half showcases the glaring weakness of this team which is lack of talent. It's gotten better but they are not there yet.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

OR … and I don’t know the truth … the first drive is a consensus pre-scripted play sequence designed by the entire staff, or key staff members. 2nd half - its 100% Roman calling plays on the fly.

Why is coaching ineffective in the 2nd half? Opponent coaches change, and he can’t counter it - thats what I’m feeling though don’t know. I’m still waiting for an explanation that makes sense. Why don’t talent gaps show up the entire game, why only the second half? Why can’t his creative first half coaching be used in the second half?

I want to square this circle, I wish someone could help me out in a way more specific and detailed than just repeating the Level 1 assumptions over and over.
“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

we rolled a lot of dice this offseason on one-year deals with "damaged goods" guys. i think we've done ok with some of those deals (JK and Gus come to mind).

i guess we crapped out on Chark. i saw a video of him catching passes from Herbert a few weeks ago and he looked ready to go. oh well.

Gus hasnt had a big injury history. He has been JKs backup. Gus isnt an elusive RB, he is a bigger guy that when he hits the hole and there is space he is tough to bring down. Our OL isnt quite there having consistant openings and Gus wont make play out of nothing like Dobbins does. I wasnt real high on signing Gus either to be honest.

Chark, Gus, Hurst.......three i wasnt high on. Glad two of them are 1 year deals. I dont mind Gus coming back, unless they release him but we surely should add more to the RB room and id like to keep Dobbins.

Im not optomistic we will sign Higgins either because of his cost but he seems to be the consenses round here. He would be an upgrade, yes but at what cost?

What was that Mike McCoy quote? Something like we're a good team you can tell by the first 3 quarters? We lack playmakers on offense but I disagree with the analysis.

Just look at the 1st halves of the season. The 1st half is pretty much game planed with scripted plays. They practice those plays throughout the week. It's why they look better in the 1st half.

I don't buy it. The Ravens game was the first time this season that they scored a td on the opening drive. If those scripted plays are so good the time they would work best if first possession. More likely is that defenses adjust in the second half and our offense doesn't or makes bad adjustments.

Or the team has better players and win the 2nd half. The Chargers have won the majority of the 1st halves this year.

It was the 3rd time they scored a TD on their opening drive. They also scored TDs against the Panthers and Chiefs on their opening drives.

Imagine the Monday game if the teams swapped receivers, TEs and running backs for the game. We win that game by double digits.
So both can’t be true at the same time? That’s an interesting argument. Do you think Roman is maximizing this offense? Do you think we have the weapons to beat great teams? I think you will come to the sane conclusion I laid out. Roman is not maximizing this offense and we do my have the weapons to compete at the highest level.
