Except he’s a trenches guy and Pipkins as a starting RG for $8.7 million makes more financial sense than Pipkins at swing tackle riding the bench for $8.7 million. Harbaugh already said tonight he sees him as one of the 5 starters.
Remember it’s in Harbaugh we trust right?

I don't think we are done drafting OL here.

At this point I wouldn’t be shocked if they pick JPJ or Frazier at #37. I would be more shocked if it’s receiver at #37 with the value at Defensive Tackle/ OLIne and Corner on the board.
Harbaugh is bringing back the Wishbone Offensive. 😂😂😂.

Oh yeah! Spent the evening at my brother's. He wanted Nabers badly. Boy was he pissed.
I didn't even get to celebrate my personal win. Oh well... he'll see the light eventualy.

Joe Alt is the text book pic. if you look early on, a lot of guys had us picking Alt.

this reminds me of when we drafted Bosa, everyone had us in 20 directions, and in the end we simply made the text book pick.

i loved Nabers and Bowers, but this is a solid pick. and if the O-line sucks, the other shit (WR and RB) won't matter. we have seen this play out.

Salyer was a day 3 guy who imo is a tackle in a guard's body.
There really is no restrictions on any position switches on the OL.
it literally can be, "best 5"
And remember, 3rd OT gets plenty of snaps in Jim's offense.
Salyer is better than Zion right now.

factoring in injuries, which are guaranteed to happen - that is a good problem.

same thing happens in baseball, the day after somebody says "we have 4 great outfielders, there isn't enough room" one of the guys gets hurt.

The problem is that WR was a bigger need and Odunze/Nabers are also incredible prospects also.

They missed out on one of the top 3 guys and now the second level guys are gone as well.

Sorry to those who dislike Pipkins but now he’s going to be protecting the interior. 😂
Listen to Harbaugh's words from 7:40 to 8:30 in the video. He speaks highly of Pipkins, but I didn't interpret it as Pipkins is a starting guard at all. It was pure coach-speak. He said he would play five offensive tackles if he could. Lol. Later on he did say Pipkins is one of his five best linemen and he imagines there will be a spot for him as a starter, but I'm not sure I'm buying it. We'll see.

There will be a competition this summer, and perhaps Pipkins will get a shot to compete at guard. Or maybe Harbaugh was saying all of that in hopes he can get a draft pick for Pipkins. The only thing we do know right now is that Harbaugh and Hortiz selected their right tackle fifth overall, in spite of many here saying it wasn't necessary because Pipkins wasn't our worst offensive lineman and we were in desperate need of a weapon--especially with a generational talent like Malik Nabers sitting there.

In the end, Joe Alt is ours. Time to move forward.

LA Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh and GM Joe Hortiz speak to the media at their press conference following day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft to recap the team's selectio...
