9 is outside of two tight ends aligned on one side.

I see that Branden Rice added his dads number to his college number.

Eggs isn't well suited to be 5, 6 7, 8, or 9 gapper except in some weird trick alignment confusion attempt. idunno, he's not a DE/OLB. He's suited to be a 3-gap ("4"-gap on the chart above) IDL DT.

Yes. Rookies sometimes have a say in the number they get assigned, and... sometimes they don't.

for those of you wishing that we had drafted Hunter Nourzad.... from PFF,

Nourzad has put up some shaky grades in pass protection for Penn State over the last several seasons, but he earned a 77.0 run-blocking grade in 2023.
5/11 Fuaga, 37 Kamari Lassiter, 40 Sinnott, 67 Bralen Trice, 69 Cedric Gray, 105 Jaylen Wright, 110 Braelon Allen, 140 Joe Milton, 181 Khristian Boyd, Tylan Grable, 225 Daijun Edwards, 253 Miyan Williams

                  Los Angeles Chargers: Grade A

Round 1, Pick 5: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame
Round 2, Pick 34: Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia
Round 3, Pick 69: Junior Colson, LB, Michigan
Round 4, Pick 105: Justin Eboigbe, DL, Alabama
Round 5, Pick 137: Tarheeb Still, CB, Maryland
Round 5, Pick 140: Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame
Round 6, Pick 181: Kimani Vidal, RB, Troy
Round 7, Pick 225: Brenden Rice, WR, USC
Round 7, Pick 253: Cornelius Johnson, WR, Michigan

Jim Harbaugh is going to turn these boys around real quick, huh? I’m not as high on Joe Alt as others but I understand the pick. I don’t think he’s going to suck and they needed a new right tackle in the worst way. After that Harbaugh kept scooping talent. I’m sure being in the college game helped him because he really knew what he was doing in the later rounds.

McConkey is going to get open. He’s already their number one. I also love that they took two more recognizing the Quentin Johnston pick was a mistake. Was there a better pick in the 7th round then ending up with those two receivers?

Where does it end? Junior Colson is a damn good player. Cam Hart in round five? Just wow.

I don’t agree with every decision that was made but LA did a really good job.

Excellent contribution as always! This is very helpful to a lot folks whom have an idea (I'm on this boat), have no idea, or think they're an expert but not really lol.

So for this particular formation (I), one might call something like “I 24 lead”, which means the the RB (2) follows the FB (3) thru the 4 hole between the RG & RT. OTOH Defenses always refer to the gap as letters.

Also pertinent are the defensive line “techniques”, which is where a lineman will align. See attached diagram. So a NT lining up over Center is “0 tech”, so on and so forth.

Permit me to elaborate for a moment here:

Each of us becomes more fluent in the 'language' of football, the longer we pay attention (unless you relied on Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton for your information, in which case you were horribly misdirected, but I digress...). And like with the acquisition of ANY language, one's UNDERSTANDING of words and terms precedes being able to SPEAK them.

Often, our more articulate football brothers will explain something football in a way where you go, "Oh! I always understood that was true, but had never heard it put into words that so clearly explained it before." It's one of the great things about a forum with a breadth of football experience.
