Perez is still a (solid) #3 as far as I'm concerned . . . . . . . . . our #2 QB is not on the team ATM
For right now, Perez is the 2nd best QB on the team though. I don't know what they are thinking, why they seem disinterested in trying to upgrade at QB 2 when they are bringing guys in at over other position.
Chargers PFF grades: Best, worst performers in preseason loss to Rams
Gavino Borquez
In the second preseason game, the Chargers fell short to the Rams, 13-9.
The starters remained sidelined, while the majority of the playing time went to those at the middle to the back end of the depth chart who are vying for a role or a spot on the 53-man roster.
With that being said, here are the best and worst performers from Saturday’s game, according to Pro Football Focus’ player grades.

The day after the game against the Rams, I was sure that these players were gone !

PFF scorers would not know a football if Herbert threw it at their head.

Alex Leatherwood played better than Trey Pipkins?!? Uh oh...
For right now, Perez is the 2nd best QB on the team though. I don't know what they are thinking, why they seem disinterested in trying to upgrade at QB 2 when they are bringing guys in at over other position.
Two main possibilities:
(1) There just isn't any quarterback currently available that has the traits and experience they're looking for.
(2) ...except for possibly a couple of guys who have the qualifications, but who aren't interested in holding Justin Herbert's beer. So to speak. So, they're been asked, and said 'No'.
Maybe somebody gets cut that they like. (Heinicke?)
The housecleaning their doing (Baumann? Duggan? Buh bye!) looks like they're paving the way to add somebody.
So... I don't know what they're thinking, either, but there's all sorts of circumstantial evidence that they *do* have a plan.
