    Overview

Nickel cornerback with the traits and toughness for consideration as a fill-in safety if needed. Harper’s only season as a starter came in his single year at Notre Dame but he looked capable in his role. He’s tenacious in coverage and as a run defender. He has above-average explosiveness and the ability to make up ground when needed. He stays hyper focused on his man in coverage and lacks ideal eye balance and length to make plays on the football. Harper needs work in both man and zone coverages, but he has the traits, toughness and upside to have a chance once he gets into a camp.

    Strengths
    • Showed impressive speed and explosiveness at his pro day.
    • Shined against USC with smothering slot coverage.
    • Sudden burst to close out route separation.
    • Plays with downhill, striking mindset against the run.
    • Latches into ball-carriers’ legs with quality force.
    Weaknesses
    • Only one year of starting experience in college.
    • Small stall triggering with route break when flat-footed.
    • Too much face-guarding and not enough football finding.
    • Tight hips cause him to lose ground tracing route turns.
    • Arms are short and ball production is slim
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    Let’s win one for Mack.

The former Oklahoma State grad transfer was timed at 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash and flashed a 42-inch vertical jump that would have tied for third among all safeties and cornerbacks that tested in Indianapolis.

“I’m glad I got to show what I can do here,” Harper said. “I proved my athleticism and that I’m athletic enough to play at the next level.”

Its funny, when I see 4.5 forty for a RB, WR, DB, I think, man he is slow. When I see 4.48 I think, man he is fast.

Some here may think Stick starting the last game indicates his inside track on the #2 job...but Im suspicious...he has looked bad...this may well be a "last chance" eval to make the roster, given out of respect to a hardworking teammate with seniority, and Herberts preferred buddy in the QB room...

Bottom line, from an arm talent perspective, Perez's throws have been far more accurate. I think if Stick shits the bed this week, we may be looking at a surprise cut...

Sleeper day 3 pick: Tahj Brooks RB Texas Tech

I have been on record that for me, there will not be a surprise cut. Now, if there is a surprise cut, I will admit it but somebody like Spiller or Rumph or JT Woods - won't be a surprise
And based on this preseason - neither will Easton Stick. I didn't want him back last year. And I was somewhat disappointed he was brought back so readily this offseason without any competiion,.

I would call it a deserved cut rather than a surprised cut. He just has no upside.

Stick has a better arm but seems to choke in games. Way better in practice. Run the option, he's way better. Perez is crap if protection breaks down and he still has the ball.
I don't like either one but I'd take Stick. He can play football if you run a lot. Stick isn't going anywhere if we don't get a quality NFL QB to play #2.

They need to cut Stick. I like Perez more because he reads and reacts faster and throws it long more often thus stretching the defense.

Stick has been here for years so he’s had more than enough time to display growth and success. I’ve seen neither.

On the other hand, Perez has been here less than two weeks and played with lineups I doubt he knows half the names of.

Cut Stick, keep Perez, and sign another backup QB with proven NFL success.
