Season before last? He had 17 sacks. That's not an example of a guy's numbers being on the decline over a couple of year period.

Gadsden has a pretty ridiculous skill set. Wingspan of an airplane, completely respectable speed, and good hands, and competes for the ball in traffic well.

A QB with Herb's arm can no doubt get the ball through tight windows and into Gadsden's mitts.

If the Chargers' offense has reasonable success in the trenches, Herb will have the opportunity to capitalize on the talents of numerous targets that weren't available to him a year ago. Gadsden is one of them.

Can’t wait to see him. The tape I watched of him shows superior route directional changes vs typical TEs - he is closer to a WR than most TEs who are more stilted and stuttered in their cuts and moves, hence easier to cover. He flows through direction changes with less loss of inertia

Throw Brendan Rice and Jaylen Johnson in there.

Maybe Hortiz and Roman are just doing the guy a solid as he played for them years ago in Baltimore but cant see him breaking into the current top 8 WRs. As I said its been 5 years since he made any impact in the NFL, since he has literally done anything.
I'm guessing since Snead was with the Ravens, his connection with Trader Joe is getting him a look now...Snead's agent probably called Hortiz and asked for his client to come in to TC to get a chance to compete...Trader Joe probably said, ok, but no guarantees...a real longshot...

I understand that it’s too early, but it’s nice to hear that Oronde Gadsden is ascending quickly. He certainly looks and feels the part. Even when looking back at Harbaugh’s 49ers, all TEs were not great blockers, so good enough really matters in that area.

How did R.J. Mickens fall in the draft? Dude has athleticism, experience, and is instinctive from what I have gathered. Intelligence matter at safety and linebacker in my opinion to help guard against shorter plays turning into giving up too many big plays by taking wrong angles and reads.

<blinks hard> OF COURSE a guy in Snead's position doesn't get any guarantees. He's a complete outlier to make the roster. Joe Hortiz would not have to remind Snead or his agent of this.

His numbers are going to be down from 17 no matter what. We rotate too many guys trying to keep everyone fresh. Mack got 17 sacks in part because he was on the field every snap we could manage. Now we have a rotation. The goal has to be about finding a way to get pressure late in games.

The goal of a rotation is to keep him fresh for when it counts. We want Mack to have something left late in the game when we are protecting a lead or we need a big play to get the ball back. That comes at a cost that he is going to be losing some opportunities for some cheap production earlier in games. But I will trade a cheap sack on 1st and 10 in the 1st half for a pressure that gets the D off the field late in the 4th quarter any day of the week. But to do that, he isn't going to have enough snaps on the field to get 15+ sacks.

Two of my favorite Day3 picks ... I have a good feeling about both, I'm feeling its more a when than if. Mickens is gonna be c-blocked to get on the field much, the Safety room has guys that Minter trusts and I'm not expecting them to shift him to LB - I expect heavy ST role as he should be a natural. Oronde - I expect he's on the field and making plays before the second half of the season, I just don't know how much earlier he'll gain the trust. He benefits that the 2024 incumbents are lacking as receivers and Conklin is equally new to the system and Herbert. Conklin does gain advantage of years of NFL experience. very interesting times ...

TT never had Day3 picks worth shit. (*I know its almost never, but close enough)

I don't know why he's here, but I put his odds of making the roster at 0.01%. camp body to help our DBs feel better about themselves is all I can guess at this point.

Like I said, the only reason I can think of is that both Snead and Trader Joe have the Ravens connection...and Hortiz probably did a favor for a former Raven to give him a chance to compete in TC...most other teams probably looked at Snead's injury history and said no...

I wonder if they're letting him hang with our WRs to see if he'd fit as an apprentice WR coach.

I think you are right. Hortiz is doing Snead and his agent a solid by letting him workout, even if the Chargers don't have room at WR it gives him some league wide exposure.
