It's really hard to get a feel for Rice this preseason, it doesn't help that Stick has been so erratic almost playing nervous, also we've seen some shitty vanilla play calling, but from those limited impressions, Rice hasn't looked that good either, nothing has really stood out, not his blocking, his hands, his route running, I mean he just hasn't made much of an impression so how much of that is offensive calls or stinky Stick, IDK

Yep. Yep. Yep. Rice hasn't stood out at all, but you can't really get a handle on him because Stick is not a good QB. People are saying that the word is Rice is a lock because of his special teams play. I don't know about that. Fehoko deserves a roster spot over Rice if you ask me. Rice does not have Fehoko's speed. I don't want to lose Rice, because I think he can be developed into a good WR, and he's got an old man who can help him succeed. But, yeah, bottom line, as you note, hard to get a feel for Rice after the preseason.

it seemed to me that Stick had more chemistry with Fehoko for sure and that's not fair to Rice as Fehoko has been catching passes from Stick since 2023 offseason...

Yep. All good points. He's not tradeable. If they waive him with the hope of signing him to the PS, will he get poached off waivers by another team? It's interesting, the 49ers might be WR needy. Aiyuk has one foot out the door. Their 1st rnd rookie Ricky Pearsall has been injured, it's not certain he will be ready by Week 1. If the son of Jerry appeared on the waiver wire, would they take a flyer on him? He really did not distinguish himself in the preseason.

                  Agree.

He'd also have to learn a new offense on the fly.

Yep...that's why I said Simi is Stick's security blankie...on the other hand, I just didn't see Rice getting a whole lot of separation on the few throws that went his way...maybe Herbie does better with him in practice, don't know...

LOL! This Amsterdam trip was with the wife and girls... the Anne Frank House and museums.
Now back in 1989 (with my brother) is a different story...

EuroBolt responded earlier that he's in the Cheshire area.
Maybe his nickname should be "Cheshire Cat"...?

BTW... thanks for info/stories Euro. I'll PM you if I'm ever in the Cheshire area. We'll tip a few pints, mate!

I have to think that the 49ers have some guys of their own they're worried about losing. They'll want to sign guys to their practice squad who, for the most part, already have familiarity with the team's system and terminology, from having just been through camp. That's a guy who's ready to step in, if needed. It's questionable whether they have the luxury of being able to develop a waiver wire acquisition, since they're thin at wideout and want someone who'll help them NOW.

When you claim players from other teams' cuts, there is no such continuity. Of course, if even ONE of the other 31 teams in the league views a particular waived player as a diamond in the rough, there's the chance he could be claimed. Is that the case with Brenden Rice? Do any of us really know?

If Rice has been showing out in practices, I doubt that Joe Hortiz is going to hold his preseason stats against him.

I don't have a hard time believing that Hortiz has the situation properly assessed, and that he won't do anything monumentally stupid.

Well, I'll say Stick hasn't played well throwing to Rice in preseason. Rice has looked good in TC with Herbert throwing to him.

                          Stick finished PS 25 of 55 with a 45.5% , 1 TD, 3 INTs.
The QBs as a group had a 50% completion % . Pretty shitty.

Fouts wasn't holding back much saying Stick has to throw a catchable ball and damn near all those to Rice got knocked away.
I've read Rice is perhaps the best blocking WR we have and that will hold weight as well. McConkey not looking so hot doing that lol.

I don't think we keep 7 WRs but we'll see. I have no preference of who makes the team. If 7 WRs is part of the best 53, then so be it but I'd guess an extra OL has a preference but idk.
