There will be some interesting cap casualties this year. The QB landscape, with big UFA contracts and desparate trades makes it inevitable. LAC would be wise to wait.

one thing most of us forget, is in today's NFL, the edge rushers dont have as huge an impact that they once did with immobile pocket QB's..... pass rushers up the middle are the only ones that consistently have a chance to get to a QB before the ball is gone..... ball is usually gone before outside rushers get there.....

look at chiefs.... they have one great pass rusher in Jones who primarily rushes up the middle and when he is outside, he still forces his way into the middle......... and most of their great pass rush comes from timely designed blitzing up the middle..... Chargers can do the same if coverage is good....

good point, so maybe it is a mix of EDGE and DL. also, i am not an expert, but you might be able to scheme/stunt the EDGE rushers to come up the middle. my main point is: draft for the defensive line, and use free agency on the offensive line and receivers.

Great post, and once they no longer had the best pair of tackles in the league, they finished building the best interior line in the league.

Yeah, either paired with Dalman and I like the O line a whole lot more. Draft G’s to replace going forward the next 2 drafts. That’s the mauling Oline that Harbaugh envisions.
Get a TE and another RB and we’re cooking with gas..

I would be fine with the above - Dalman and Martin or Zeitler - draft an OG - at least one. And you are good to go

The bar is pretty low -- Bozeman and Pipkins. I know Boze played a lot of snaps and PIpkins was ouit of position but still - they need to improve

I wonder if Pipkins has any trade value as a RT at 6.75m for one year. Anything, anything at all. RT for under $7m NFL -- come on down!!

yeah, at that price draft 2 edge players and load up everywhere else in free agency.

If Khalil Mack were $28m - that figure probably makes sense. He is not 28 so giving him an AAV of $23m - seems steep to me
Maybe a one year deal for $18-20m makes sense. Basically what he made last year. And from what I saw, he didn't do anything to really earn that much more - but not really that much less.

Myles Garrett is asking for a trade from the Cleveland Browns. I'm not impressed with the lack of first-round talents in this draft, so I would consider trading #22 for him.

If Allen is back post draft - -he is back. I wouldn't sign him pre draft thats for sure unless it truly is like $5m or less. I just know - to beat the Chiefs and hold off the Broncos and one day the Raiders might be good - going to have to get better players. And the NFL, data by and large shows - is for players in that 24 to 30 range. Of course, position matters. Back up QB compared to RB. You can have Joe Flacco as your back up QB but look at Zeke Elliott - he is done at 30.

Hence Bosa or Mack - only one is coming back and get younger.
TE - draft a young guy
RB - draft a young guy - if they release Gus, so be it
WR - I am okay with a 26 year old Tee Higgins or drafting somebody in the mold and skillset of Higgins

I look at an Allen return as an extra WR piece, not "the solution to our WR problem" piece. I don't know the right $$, but agree with you generally.

I don't think they will spend ~ $25M on Higgins or really that our O problems are that dire. I could see $10M for Hollywood then signing or drafting a good pass catching TE and a 3rd down RB. That last position , Ekeler types, I think we really missed last year .

Those aren't big $ problems though. RBs and TEs are cheap in FA or the draft. 2 more options to move the chains on 3rd down vs Ladd only. We have always been a spread it around type O which is a good thing and it makes sense $ wise too

2) Khalil Mack ED: 3yr/70mil - Avg: 23mil/yr -- ask me how much is guaranteed but probably not
3) Trey Smith OG: 4yr/78mil - Avg: 19mil/yr -- way too low - he will get 23-25
4) Zack Martin OG: 1yr/9mil - Avg: 9mil/yr -- if healthy and he wants to play, and the Suns need a vet RG - he was dominant. I still would probably prefer a younger RG - but one year stopgap, he or Zeitler
5) Jevon Holland S: 4yr/60mil - Avg: 15mil/yr
6) Haason Reddick ED: 1yr/11mil - Avg: 11mil/yr -- I think he gets more
7) Nick Bolton LB: 4yr/49mil - Avg: 12mil/yr -
8) Keenan Allen WR: 2yr/22mil - Avg: 11mil/yr - nope - rather pay Hollywood
9) Drew Dalman C: 3yr/20mil - Avg: 6.8mil/yr -- seems low to me. I think Dalman gets $10m AAV and Kelly would be in that $7-8m range for one year but $10m is workable
10) Ryan Kelly C: 1yr/10mil - Avg: 10mil/yr - for one year with Martin or ZEilter - not bad
11) Charvarious Ward: 3yr/45mil - Avg: 15mil/yr
12) D.J. Reed: 4yr/58mil - Avg: 14/mil/yr

And yes, from a cap perspective - the Suns could sign Smith and Dalman for 25m. My guess, the AAVs combined would be in the low to mid 30's in free agency

EDIT: Chargers ciuld sign Smith and Dalman - NBA trade deadling on the brain!

I forgot to add these aren't my numbers. I got them from Spotrac. Mack's was surprising given his age. Not sure any team will give him a 3-year deal knowing he is contemplating retiring.

Easily would do 22 for him
and possibly another FRP plus a day 2 pick

But that dude will cost some money
he is a difference maker though

i don't think it happens - I am still thinking its the Lions - but as said - I wouldn't hate it
