I'm not sure this is a good sign for Zion, it's all or nothing now, either he brings it at center or his time as a Charger is coming to an end...I was calling for him to be the center in waiting when they drafted him and then two separate coaching staffs gave him zero looks at center even after he had looked awesome as a center during the senior bowl...now this might be more like "we're going to move McFadden to center" than "damn, we found our center of the future" I like Zion, I wanted us to draft him, and he's flashed in the run game and was playing well when we had Corey Linsley playing next to him, but now, IDK, I think this might be a sign that he's on his way out the door...I'm rooting for the kid but I'm worried that his getting snaps at center could basically mean he lost his starting LG spot for good...

I see this as the standard Harbaugh mantra "the best 5 will play." Zion is currently our 3rd best OL. We cannot guarantee that we will get a Center in either free agency or the draft. We may end up with 2 guards. If we do, it would be nice if Zion can play Center. He is already under contract and he out-played Bozeman last year. Having Center ability just makes it more likely for Zion to play.

I personally do not expect us to walk away from this offseason and draft with 3 new IOLs who are all better than Zion. I may hope that we will, but I don't expect it.

What I’m really hoping for is a youth movement at edge.
Sign Koonce or Sweat AND Odeybingo moving on from both Mack and Bosa. Opens up the 3rd round for another position. Colts likely take one of the 2 TEs at 14, poach them for Fries and Odeybingo. They soon need to extend Nelson and both tackles.

I saw a graphic that showed in the Telesco era, if you exclude QB, the Chargers "WAR" for lack of a better term, meaning production for the rest of the roster was third from the bottom. So that was Rivers, one Taylor start, Herbert and four starts from Stick when Herbert got hurt. So for much of that time, top 10 QB play -- thats safe say - the Chargers have had good QB play

So this is what Telesco didn't do and what Hortiz is up against.

The above shows what Herbert has been fighting. So yes, Davante Adams may cost money, so the bleep what - he deserves a top end WR. Also deserves a better OL so the running game improves.

And I was the first one to suggest on here say on here play Zion Johnson at Center. He did it in College just try it. I think he would be a great Center. I know Laken Tomlinson did the same thing.

He wasn't GM in Baltimore - that was DeCosta. Also a different business model. Ravens usually spend money on their own. The Chargers won't have that problem for two years with Hanley Tuli and that group.

True but Hortiz did say at the combine that Baltimore is where he learned and that's the way that it works. He loves comp picks and spend wisely.

So DeCosta pulled the triggers but Hortiz won't likely veer off to much from his learning model. They didn't even resign Patrick Queen. Looking to move Andrews.

Yes, I'm rooting for him to succeed as the center, the guy is smart as hell but that's book smart, I think it'll translate to his new position change but IDK, I'm hoping and praying it does, I would absolutely love it he became a good center for us, as for his issues with pass protection, I heard the guys on GAC speculate that the move should improve his pass pro as his role will be different but I'm hazy on the explanation as to why moving to center would make pass protection easier for him...maybe one of our resident O-line experts can chime in on this....

having a center that can that is as athletic as he is, that can pull and run block the way he does, could be a game changer for the Chargers...He's got some good people working with him, Hardwick is there now and that can't hurt...it would be huge for the Chargers if this is a serious attempt to finally solve the center issue...he's young, he's durable, and he's a beast, park a guy like Banks on one side and Grey Zabel on the other and you'll have a massive and very scary offensive line...fingers firmly crossed this works out...
