    Salary-cap situation

We are still working off eight projected cap hits in our cap estimates. Some of these are based on reported figures, while others are educated guesses based on positional markets.

    • Mack: $18 million
    • Jackson: $4 million
    • Tart: $3.5 million
    • Dye: $2 million
    • Reagor: $1.5 million
    • Perryman: $3.65 million
    • St-Juste: $2.3 million
    • Williams: $4 million

The Chargers are now at 55 rostered players. Only the top 51 cap hits count against the cap through the offseason.

    Projected total space: $48.46 million.

Projected effective space (which includes draft pick compensation): $45.27 million.

Projected spending space (which includes draft pick compensation and an $8 million in-season budget): $37.27 million.

The roster will get to 90 players by the time training camp begins in July. They currently have 10 draft picks. They will add between 15 and 20 undrafted free agents. That leaves between five and 10 veteran contracts left to add to the cap sheet. If it is 10, then the Chargers can average about $3.7 million in 2025 cap hits for each of those 10 signings.

Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    Let’s win one for Mack.

Follow FA every year, and you see the high end guys are frequently an issue. If you don't believe, go look at the list of guys who were cap causalities. A lot of them were big money guys from a couple of years ago. Teams give them a chance, then they have to move on, and you piss away even more money in dead cap space (it was already pissed away when the contract was signed, but still) and now you are still out trying to fill the hole that the big money FA didn't fill, but was a liability so you might have avoided the draft pick who could have.

Plus, I actually like the guys they have brought in. I think Hortiz and Harbaugh are doing great this offseason. I hope they can find some more FA to fill in some more gaps, and add some depth, but so far so good.
100%. The money being thrown around is ridiculous, albeit not surprising. Will Fries for 5 / $88 mil?? He literally had 5 good games before being IR’ed. Also only ran 37% gap scheme (per Katson from GAC). Ditto Aaron Banks - had ONE above average year & bagged $77 mil. Dan Moore for $82 mil?? And Javon Kinlaw for $45 mil?? This is exactly what happens in a thin FA year. Not a lot of smart money being thrown around & plenty of future members of the Buyer’s Remorse Club. As Bolt fans, we should be quite familiar. B/c it’s not just JC Jackson that didn’t pan out. We can’t ignore the long history of buyer’s remorse when it comes to the Chargers’ OL acquisitions - Bulaga, Trai Turner, Barksdale, Hairston, Orlando Franklin. Sure, there’s been a hit or two. But even Linsley only played 2 effective years out of a 5 yr contract. Okung played 2 effective years out of a 4 yr deal. Pouncey played 1 out of 2. Heaps of dead money is what JoeHo is trying to avoid.

Now, Zietler for $9 mil would’ve been nice, but the rumor (per Haglund) is that he wanted to stay on the East Coast.

Joe is an Ozzie Newsome disciple. Let’s see where he takes this ship. Year 2 is probably early, but “true contender” status by year 3 is more realistic.

I see us considering Gap/Power/Duo Guards to station on either side of Zion.

At least one of them should be a vet, and might be the under contract Pipkins and/or Salyer.

On the other side of the coin, the Pats just released David Andrews, who may retire.

They drafted the prototype sized Bryan Stork (6' 4"/ 315#) round 4 2014, only to have undersized UFA Andrews (6' 2"/ 295#) beat him out and excel for a decade.

There are many late round/UDFA value Centers that could fit this model for us, but we would need to hit on this perfectly.
lol.... thats the second funny thing you have posted today...trying to sell us Pipkins and Salyer as guard solutions

If you spend $25 mill on 2 competent guards, there ain’t much cap space left.

Hahaha. I am working very hard on woodMock v3.

Hortiz keeps signing people and messing me up.

Technically, the Chargers can average more because the roster is at 53 since Popper included the draft picks. Its actually like 45m of actual buying power if they sign 10 players.

That said, it won[t be 10 players making a lot of money. It will be 3 to 4 guys -making more money and a bunch of guys making 1-2m
