We have not got a lot of options.... If Alt is due to play LT it's like 2 camps and whole season of messing him with RT thing...
Then Becton and Alt side is becoming what if ....

    This OL is in shambles.

I would left ALT on right side and let him work with Becton then depending on Slater rehab move or not to LT next off-season.

He did. However long-armed Chandler Jones gave Salyer fits.

It's a mess whatever we do. Alt to OLT no doubt. But that weakens us. I was so hoping to see Becton + Alt over on the right.

        Becton hasn't practiced yet.

3 pre season games to figure it out.

I don't think the OL is in shambles. Losing your franchise LT for the season is tough. But the Chargers are in a unique position of having another elite OT on the roster who can take over and provide the same level of protection for the QB's blind side as the Slater did. They just have to find a solution on the right side that is good enough. The other thing working in the Chargers' favor is that this happened in early August, giving them a month to figure this out. If this had happened once the season started, it would much more difficult to overcome the loss.

No Joe Alt is playing left tackle. He is the left tackle. He played it for 3 years at Notre Dame. That’s the position he is most comfortable playing. It doesn’t matter. You put your franchise player on the left side his blind side that’s gonna be Alts job. Just as it was slater. Yes it sucks but Alt could do it.

We’re gonna have to figure this out sign somebody on the right side and then just plug guys in. I’m sure they’ll try Slayer. But you can sign Willis. Guys on the street if you really want to see what they have for one season. Donald Penn former Raider. That’s a former teammate of mine. And Jason Peter.

I 100% get the panic and rage in TPB. I won't chastise posts, I realize the personalities involved and the background and the outbursts come from a place of both passion and historic disappointment. this blow will take some time to settle in and be internalized. Let the guys vent it out, work through it, resolve the shock to their systems. We will all be back together and ready to ride before Brazil.

We will not fall off the cliff. This is why they retained former OTs. Both Pip and Salyer sucked at OG, no reason to single out Pip there. Pip played perhaps better alone at RT than Salyer did at LT - Salyer got a lot more chip help imo. Both held up well enough to run an offense. Maybe Joe makes a bold OT move, but I think its more likely (because its easier and finding an actual starting OT at this point is difficult) that he makes a lesser move to backfill his soon-empty swing tackle spot.

I posted it once, I saw Wu post it again, but the Slayer's return is just HUGE now, if they need to speed up getting the ball out. Forget your Xs and Zs and letters in between - getting open fast is everything to counter an inconsistent pass OL.

Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...

Understand your place, my good man. you do not charge a 6 time pro bowl Chargers #1 all time WR to get his number back.
Okay, so let's lose the taco platter, but I can totally see the rook asking for a selfie with Slayer, and giving him a football to sign...

Not to be negative, i am with you and hope Hortiz can find help but the problem is the FA list of tackles is bad and tackle is the hardest position in football to trade for. There is a shortage and teams simply dont trade away decent tackles.

Might be better to bring in a guard like Scherff and have Becton as an option at tackle, though he helpled his career by moving to guard.

Me too. That is one of the bummers in all this, not seeing that gigantic right side blocking for Omarion

That are true and good points. No other team has a player like Alt to slide in at LT.

But it does put more pressure on Zion and Bozeman to play decent football this year. If they are the sieve on passing downs they were last year this will not go well

The league don’t care, cause this is part of the game. As hard as this news is, it’s next man up, that’s why you build a team. I have always seen Alt as our left tackle, it was just a matter of time and opportunity. Well we don’t get to pick the time, but now it’s his opportunity. I’ve stung in the line will not stop, and for this reason, I’m sure we will still be running the ball. Too early for next draft, but we will again invest in the line and continue what will soon be a juggernaut.

I don't completely buy the argument that we're lucky to have Alt replace Slater because we still don't have great DEPTH at OT and the foundation of our offense was predicated on the strength of out STARTING OTs which has now been cut in half.
so yes, LEFT TACKLE is fine, but we no longer have the ability to run plays equally on both sides, which was the biggest positive from drafting Alt in the first place. (At least, that was the argument that sold me on Alt personally away from Bowers).
it's like saying we were fine with Bosa getting hurt because we have Mack, we'll, that cuts our starting passrush down tremendously, even WITH Tuli.
I'd rather have ANYONE else go down for the year outside of Herbert of course.
