We certainly don't need large investment at QB or OT, 2 of the most costly positions. With Hampton and Harris picks, we shouldn't be looking at 1st round investment at RB/WR either. Maybe complimentary picks later, again staying away from pricey investment. In a worst case if IOL didn't work out besides Becton, we could see money/picks spent there. Depending on Gadsden, TE could again be a focus.

This draft seems to have put an emphasis on DE and CB next year. Tuli and Kennard seem like solid compliments but not lead dogs, and we could use an alpha lock down CB. Hopefully we see a step forward from Eboigbe and he and Caldwell form our IDL of the near future. Same with Colson and Henley at linebacker. I wonder if we see a trade in the next calendar year of our future 1st or 2nd for an established DE like Hendrickson?
Dalton Wassermann at PFF has 5 of our picks in his top 100. Mickens is 97.

Pipkins and Salyer were both better at OT backup than inside at OG (unusual, i know). I looked at the roster someone posted last night and to me the gaping depth hole is IOG. Especially given that we don’t know that a simple OC change will magically transform Zion into a good starter.

I hope to see Joe bring in one of the remaining OG FAs, both challenge Zion in camp and provide depth if Zion wins out. Bose is backup OC, and he’s not good - why expect he’s better at OG? Taylor looks like a project that is much longer than 2025 training camp to me. We’ll see if I’m wrong in time.

Herbie has a full wagon of shiny new weapons, lets get him a lil horse (er beef) insurance so he doesnt get stuck in a muddy rut.

Joe always surprises me in a positive way whenever I worry - I expect nothing less this spring and summer.

Agree 100% this. I was impressed they didn’t dwell on Sanders non-pick for the first 4.5 rounds like ESPN did, posted about it - then when he was finally taken their floodgates of suppressed sanderslobber burst open. Felt like a lame PC CYA to deflect the small but very noisy SM outrage machine away from them. Pick after pick went by unmentioned and unnoticed - fortunately i guess none were LAC picks
Kiper was ranting about the NFL owners. I hope they dont let him cover drafts anymore. He said the owners were clueless when it came to QBs and have been for 50 years.....and he is right, but its their money, their team and unfortunately some meddle.

Mel has been wrong several times on QBs as well and he acts like he is always right. He is just a bigmouth with an east coast attitude.
Anyone remember when he said "if Jimmy Clausen isnt a good NFL QB, im out of here, im done". Yet here he is. He had Clausen as the #4 player and he went round 2 and busted quickly. Not to mention his other blunders.

Lol I don’t know if NFL gets input on ESPN’s commentators. They still sell him like he’s good - truth is for years and years mel is constantly wrong. I literally look at his choices as anti-indicators of who not to take most of the time. He’s horrible at this now.

Tart was a waiver claim I think during training camp(?). Yes Molden and Heinecke were traded for right before the season started...but the signings that Hortiz made RIGHT AFTER last year's draft were DJ Chark, Bud Dupree, Tucker Fisk, and Tony Jefferson

Fisk, Jefferson, and Dupree played important roles for that 2024 team, Chark might've if he hadn't done whatever it is that he did to get in trouble with the coaching staff...that guy was an enigma but there is no question that the team would have used him and that he could've played a role if he hadn't gotten hurt or in trouble...not sure what happened there...but still 4 guys were added right after the draft...I don't think we'll sign 4 again this year but 2 maybe 3 doesn't sound unrealistic as they continue to shore up the roster and fill remaining holes on the roster and improve depth even further...

I would not be surprised with a LG and another DT signing...maybe even another Edge player...

I don't know how anyone can't call Hampton a game breaker. When he had Maye as QB he put up over a 1000 yrds running. Last year he had a crappier QB and put up better numbers. On top of that he was the offense. Teams were loading the box to stop him, and they couldn't. I don't think people really understand what the Chargers got with Hampton. I watch a lot of UNC games and have watched him a lot over the last couple of years. I wanted to mock him to us but thought there was no way he was going to make it to us. I'm going to go on record and say he has a very good chance of putting up better #'s than LT.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Molden was traded for later on after the draft. Don't be surprised if they pull off another trade late to help fill out the roster.

This draft might even be better than last years draft...eventual starters in round 1, 2, and 3 AND I think there could be another starter coming from the day three guys like with Still and Hart...plus I don't think we've seen the full potential of the 2024 draft yet, we haven't seen Colson take over as a starter, we haven't seen Egboigbe establish himself as an important rotational piece...there's still a lot of juice left in that 2024 draft although I do think that Vidal's job might be in jeopardy this year, especially after the Sanders signing in UDRFA, I still think Vidal can play in the NFL but he didn't help himself with his pass pro and by not playing STs...

I literally just fucking typed that, or do you just quote posts without reading them? would not be surprised if Hortiz trades for another player for cheap compensation that's due to be cut by another team, but that's months away, was talking about the moves that he's likely to make in the next couple of weeks in post draft wave three free agency...

Chark and Hurst were two of his big offensive weapons on the cheap plays that both failed miserably and really impacted the team. Fisk was not much of a factor, he was a body imo. I watched him many plays, he wasn’t a very good blocker for a guy that can’t run a pass route. Jmo, others can disagree.

His other big bet was to stand pat with his OG options and add Boze, that didn’t work but it was an understandable assessment that Boze from 2 yrs ago could return and of the two guys that played OT fairly well in the past, one of them would be able to play RG. Most of us thought it would work at least ok. It didn’t work - I think coaches need to look long and hard at how they installed and taught Gro’s system. He’s not just power gap. He’s not just counter/trap. He’s not never-zone. He combines all 3 blocking types in his rush plays and maybe they didn’t teach it well enough?

Then again, that doesn’t explain the IOL’s massive mental fails in basic pass pro - there’s no gap/counter/zone in pass pro and they constantly failed to pick up stunts or blitzes they should have - often converging 2 and 3 blockers on one defender while one or two other defenders ran untouched through the A gap at Herbie. There again - when it happens time after time, we have to ask WTF are the coaches doing? Why is the IOL not getting better at picking those up? Because they did not get better as the season went on, except in a couple isolated games.

Joe did much better work on the defensive side but we have to ask - is it Minter and his staff are just much better than Gro and his staff?

Anyhoo - 2024 is gone, we are on to 2025. I like Joe doesnt blindly stick to his guns, doesnt clutch on to failing players because they were “his”. this pre-draft and draft clearly showed he learned the biggest lessons of 2024. And He has some bullets left in his gun, i expect a few more good surprises before Sept too.

I don’t think there’s another vet OT on the market that’s better than Pipkin at swing. If he goes down, then it probably moves to Salyer.
