Just seeing how many positions a depth player can man. Better is always desirable but simply able is enough sometimes. The skill guys run, catch and block in varying degrees but all are expected to do all three.
I don't know if they're doing that with OL now but it wouldn't surprise me if they are experimenting with the depth players.

Twitter is better for info than podcasts with many guys on Twitter tied to the league. It's easier for them to post it than set up and talk about it for quick info like the one below this post.
Have you ever seen Poppers YouTube called Hops with Pops? I've seen a handful.
I assume he is still doing it but now sure.
Since you like listening to these he takes questions with fans as well as discussions.
It's like a talking Mail bag."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. The information contained in this post is provided on an "as is" basis with no guarantees of completeness, accuracy, usefulness or timeliness..."

If they had parted ways with Stick before the final 53 man roster or even the week before the season started after they had secured Heinicke, then they could've saved about 1.21 mil on the cap at that time...now they save nothing by releasing him because his remaining salary just gets added to the dead cap pool, the only thing they gain by releasing him now is the roster spot...so in my opinion it's still worth releasing him now and putting him on the PS, #1 nobody will pick him up off waivers, #2 Justin still gets his buddy in the film room, #3 Stick won't lose a dime in salary, #4 the team can gain a spot on the 53 man, and #5 the team would still have an emergency number three QB...
will it happen tho? IDK, something tells me Stick is safe on the roster in 2024, he has a powerful advocate in the front office that recruited him personally so I don't think he's going to be cut..."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. ^^^I know some people don't like to hear about how someone in the FO interfered with the Stick signing...but when you study the FA acquisitions that Hortiz made, he either paid market value or below market value...
Ford got the bare minimum for his number of accrued years
Dobbins got the bare minimum for his number of accrued years
Jefferson got the bare minimum for his number of accrued years and is making even less than that on the PS, he's earning about 40% of what he should be...
Chark, Edwards, Dupree, and Fulton got market value or about 30-40% more than minimum for their respective number of accrued seasons, all of them signed bargain deals...
Hurst and Bozeman got absolute minimum but as players that still had guaranteed money coming from Carolina, those guys knew that anything that they negotiated with a new team would just offset from what the Panthers still owed them, so both guys signed for the base minimum with the Chargers, as former Raven guys and known Hortiz guys they helped Hortiz fill holes on the roster for minimum salary...aside from the minimum salary the only thing that those two received in return was probably starting or playing time guarantees in a contract year thus setting themselves up for a potential new payday in 2025...
so when I look at all those deals and even when you look at the trades that Hortiz made, he got players on very good pay numbers for this 2024, Molden costs around 3mil and Heinicke costs like 1.25mil on the final years of their contracts...did I forget anyone? Haskins was a waiver claim and he's cheap too, he gets year 3 of his original 4rth round deal, I think. a bit over a mil...
my point is that the only deal that kind of stands out and doesn't make sense to me is Easton Stick, Easton's accrued season veteran minimum deal should've been 1.25mil, someone gave him a signing bonus for 1.43 mil that literally exceeded the minimum salary that he was scheduled to get based his vested veteran minimum status, the signing bonus alone is more than 100% of what he should be making this season, the guy had no market...does anyone here actually believe that Stick was going to get more than minimum somewhere else? Even assuming he would've even been picked up elsewhere which is debatable...
so the big issue I have with the Stick signing is not that he's on the roster because he has a powerful advocate in the FO, or that he made the 53 man roster even after we traded for a more qualified veteran to fill his role and spots were tight at other positions on the 53 man, and let's not pretend like Stick looked like he had mastered Roman's offense in the preseason, his value as the "carry-over guy who knows the offense bullshit" is just that, bullshit...NO, my issue with the Stick signing is that in a year where cap space was so limited and Hortiz has had to bend over backwards to find guys that would both be viable players for the Chargers AND play for minimum type deals, it just makes no sense to waste 1.43 million in salary cap space on a player that nobody wanted...you can't tell me that the team couldn't use that extra money right now when the cap continues to dwindle as injuries mount and replacements will need to be added or traded for as the season wears on...we are down to like 8.4 mil of usable cap space for the 2024 season...just to put that into perspective, even TT who never made any trades used about 7 mil on average yearly just on player moves to restock the roster when injuries hit because every time someone goes on IR their salary stays on the books and the new guys salary takes more money from the cap...Last edited by Fouts2herbert; 09-15-2024, 07:08 AM."The author assumes no responsibility or liability for any errors or omissions in the content of this post. His fully guaranteed is- Fully Guaranteed Money: $1,414,700
We can cut him and save nothing and endure a 1.4 mil dead cap but if we trade him the dead cap is only 167k.
However it says nothing about making the 53 so im not 100%sure. Im just going by their cut and trade charts.
