Would I trade Flowers and Simpson for Myles Garrett? You bet your ass. But what I'd like to know is, with all of the players we will have to sign to second contracts, can we keep our cap healthy over the next handful of years after extending Garrett? That's the only thing that would hold me up in trading a first and a third for Garrett.

But that would have to be some really funky thing and Cleveland or any team would learn about
I doubt it happens
I think
1) the chargers will stay the course
2) if traded, he will go to the NFC and the Lions, Commanders and even Falcons make a lot of sense as NFC teams. Bears too

The Chargers have 45 players on the "active" roster.
15 of those players are players that probably won't make the final 53-man roster. So really, they're at 30 legitimate players.
Bosa and Pipkins probably get released (because of their bad contracts). And Mack is still on the "active" roster because of his "void".
So, in reality, we have 27 players on our active list. Meaning, we have 26 spots to fill before our final-53 man roster.
If all 10 of our draftees make the Final-53.. we still have 16 roster spots to fill with re-signs and free agents.
Every free agent you sign after the official-start-of-the-season will count against the compensatory formula.
Every free agent you re-sign before the official-start-of-the-season does not count against the compensatory formula.
I suggest we find 11-12 of our own free agents and sign them before the offcial-start-of-the-season.
Then we re-sign 4 free agents after the-official-start-of-the-season... 2 @mid-level contracts... 2 @lower-level contracts.Protect the QB
Run the ball
Play great defense

Sorry guys but it does take 11 very good players to make a solid defense and not just one $30 mil superstar on defense and a $50 mil QB and the rest just average players.

Unless you are one player away from winning it all ( which they are not ).

And if the deal Popper laid out was truly an option - a 1st and a 3rd -- I would think long and hard. Traded a second for Mack - wouldn't a younger Myles Garrett be worth a 1st. Chargers traded for Mack when he was 31 in March of 2022. Hortiz could work around the third round pick I think. I don't even count Bosa but if they wanted him - more power. Also, the Chargers would have to sign him to a new contract - four year deal at least. I mean, the guy is difference maker at Edge - so for a 1/3 - I could think about it
What is not on my table:
Slater is a non-starter
Multiple FRPs is a non starter
And not extending him - has to get a new deal

I get it, were are bored and it's the middle of nowhere ( football speak ). So I get all the talk about Garret and other FA. But Horwitz will build through the draft. TT would go after Garrett but no JH3.
Lets talk about more real stuff. Top 2 TE will probably be gone by #22. However there are Othe options out there. Some TE are more receiving types, some more blocking type and the ones that are both are not so highly rated. WHICH way would you guys go.
