if Derwin was a no brainer, why did 16 GMs pass him up? Nwosu, Jones, White, Jackson .... horrible? You are letting your emotions carry you away on this one.

If u think that 2016 draft was bad, how about the two previous years? A whole lot of busts, injury busts, reaches and just bad picks who never panned out...oh, and NO 4th rounders because TT traded them away...

He isnt developing? Every WR had a down year last season in some capacity because of the OL and no time to throw but QJ had a career high 14.6 YPC and 8 TDs. Missed 3 or 4 games to injury. Only had 2 drops.Originally posted by Steve View Post
Hortiz didn't actually say he isn't trading him. He said he hadn't received and calls or made any. Even if you extend that to all forms of communications (text & email ... ), is he really ruling out QJ as a way of packaging as part of a deal to move around?
The big thing I took away about QJ is they haven't decided about his 5th year option. Joe said they hadn't decided yet. Maybe it's even true. I would imagine some of the Chargers are as divided as we are. They don't have to announce until May1st, which means they can wait until after the draft to announce. It gives the team a little bit of capital if they want to use him in a trade to move around or for picks. Washington and Cleveland both need WR help.
There is also value in keeping QJ we only have 3 other true WR. DD has never made the jump. OG could be a very good receiving TE, although he still has to step up a bit. Kolar can be a regular TE, although that is maybe projecting a bit as to his receiving ability to being starting caliber. Ingold can also be used as a receiver some. We could also resign KA. The point is that it opens up some potential choices for the front office during the draft.
I think the Chargers do like QJ. But there is a bit of a difference between liking a guy and being a little tired of waiting for his development.
I think he is coming pretty well but he isnt putting up big numbers. Tough to do when your OL is ranked last and on top of that,Roman is your OC. Herbert hasnt even had 4K yards under Roman

I don’t think they are trading him but it is liar’s month. Most people that do want to trade him don’t think he is any good so it’s odd they think there is value. Correct me if I’m wrong but Joe didn’t just start gushing about Q spontaneously, he was asked about him. Jim and Joe say they like every player asked about thats on their roster … up until that player is gone. I cannot think of a single player they didn’t say they love when asked about the player. 100% love by my counting, unless I missed some. They even still say they really liked him and wanted to keep him after he’s gone but they had a number …Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
Sounded like they arent trading QJ so i guess we can stop talking about it unless some want to call it liars month but its been their mantra on him the whole time that they like him.
Q is one of our top 2 WRs as of today and I like how cheap he is - jmo of course.

TT gets zero credit for drafting Herbert, but 90% of TPB didn’t want to draft Herbert lol. I can think of one good TPB brother that still wants to throw him back even todayOriginally posted by powderblueboy View Post

2014 was a bowl of steaming turd soup. I did enjoy the shrieking when Grice was put on PS and got poached, that was the most entertaining part of that entire draft class lolOriginally posted by beachcomber View Post

Also, Mager at the time was considered a reach in round 3...and he never really panned out...Attouchu had a decent first season, then fizzled...Watt was another of TT's Golden Domers who never even fizzled or even showed any flashes...and Tevin "The Human Toothpick" never even made the final 53...Originally posted by beachcomber View Post

Sorry, it was more about the numbers thing and maybe somewhat disappointed expectations.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post

A more realistic set of expectations by many fans is really the problem. He was a project when we drafted him. So, there was every reason to think he was going to take time to develop. Year 1 Harbaugh he played well, huge step up, but still plenty of room to grow. Last year he got a lot better, even if the stats sheet doesn't show it. That would have the expectations for QJ more or less where he is. There is a reason NFL rookie contracts are 4 years long. So maybe expectation of his development is what I should have said.
I agree with your point. None of our offensive weapons can truly be expected to have their statistical production fully reach their potential until the OL gets fixed. The injuries hurt QJ specifically, but the other receivers also had their production tank late in the year when the OL was struggling the most. So did OG. So did the running game. The D struggled a bit too, but when the O is not moving the ball, forcing the D to play more, and with worse field position, then even they cannot be expected to play at quite the same level.

We had a bad scouting department under TT which was originally led by JohnboyOriginally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
Regular season stats mattered to TT
Its not a given that your team is a playoff team every year.
Remember he proudly claimed he personally scouted Stick

Agreed. You cant take all credit away from Telesco for drafting Herbert. In that draft season, there were plenty of Herbert doubters out there, questioning if he had the make up to be an NFL QBOriginally posted by dmac_bolt View Post

Most popular choice here as I recall was a skinny edge guy that was a bust - can’t recall his name? (Was it Edge?). A few wanted an OT vs taking Herbert.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
