I am thinking of QJ realistically as our WR3 and adding more of an x type that can get open downfield and make contested catches. That is not Q. He could be more effective with designed touches and slants to use his skill set.Originally posted by sonorajim View Post
I thought of Palmer as our #3 WR. I think Kupp should be able do that but I wouldn't pay much.

Jimmy Johnson of the Dallas Cowboys with a franchise QB built one of the greatest teams of all time through the draft in two seasons. The first year they had 1 win, the next season they had 7 wins, the 3rd season they became a dynasty! It's a process, and today is the first day of Free Agency. We've had exactly one draft. I have a feeling after this draft you're going to feel a bit more hopeful.Originally posted by dmac_bolt View Post
I don't see them building shit. Jim and Joe TALK about building a LOS team. they haven't done shit yet to accomplish this goal. ok, Fine, they drafted Alt. and a Rd 4 DT that couldn't even get on the field all year. We can talk about Alt again all 2025 like we talked about him all of last year, we can pat our backs until they are sore. Meanwhile our overall OL was a complete laughing stock disaster.
If they want a real LOS team and they have no lines on either side of the ball, which today they do not - they don't take a complete pass on signing any legitimately high quality veterans and "uh meh build through the draft". they would do all of the above with a fearless and impatient purpose: draft, sign, and trade until they fill both lines with ABOVE AVERAGE players. don't wait 3, 4, 5 fucking years or hope and pray a magic fairy turns late Day3 comp picks and unwanted discarded vets into hidden Day1 gems.
its the most egoist hubristic thinking imaginable to presume they are smarter than all other 31 teams combined and will get superior players by letting every other team pick their players first. Do they really think that no other team knows about the "comp pick game"? Are all other teams just blindly signing FAs with no clue that it will effect their next comp calculation? or perhaps, just maybe, they have figured out that getting actual superior players is a better bet than hoping for a fucking late Day3 comp pick that turns into a unicorn elite starter?
I'm against playing the Unicorn Game ...

Moving forward I might not disagree. Post draft and FA. Currently Q is #2 IMO.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

Everyone knows that was because Jimmy fleeced MIN in the Hershall Walker trade.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

First we really do need to see some sort of o line help before the draft so our hand is not totally forced early in the draft and we have the option open to draft the best players not by weak positionOriginally posted by electricgold View Post

Something is brewing. Maybe one of the resident cap gurus here can clarify, but don’t they have to spend close to 89% of their cap space, per NFL rules? According to OTC, they still have $83 mil left (less Dye’s contract, which won’t be much). For sure, they’ll rinse & repeat with a bunch more 1 year prove it value deals. But presumably, that still leaves room for some larger dollar contracts. So who are they saving it for??Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View PostTeams have to be cap compliant by 1 pm today.
Maybe there will be some releases Hortiz will shop from that favor his comp pick philosophy

Harbaugh who is obsessed with the Oline will address the IOL in the draft probably in the first three rounds if they see their type of player on the board. I promise you that.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

They also may sign one of the OG's free agents still available.

Well, he had a lot of help from the Vikings making a ridiculous trade with him for Herschel Walker, along with the 49ers stupidly trading him Charles Haley. Lol.Originally posted by electricgold View Post

But the point is valid. Winning team-builders like Johnson, Belichick, and Newsome build primarily through the draft and don't overspend on free agents they don't think can help them in the long run. I'm sure Hortiz and Harbaugh would have signed someone to a huge contract if they thought he was worth it. They also increase their draft picks through trades and the compensatory selection game so they will have more chances to hit on good players. It's a winning formula that has proven to be successful.

I like following the Dallas example for team building. Which team will give us 3 first round picks and 3 second round picks for Najee Harris?Originally posted by electricgold View Post

He’s so obsessed that they let all the top G’s get signed elsewhere. Becton and Zeitler are just going to wait until during and after the draft when teams still have a massive hole at G and they can capitalize on desperate teams.Originally posted by electricgold View Post

And yes, because they have massive holes in the middle of the oline, they will be forced into taking Guards and a C with their 1st three picks. Which means a 4th round pick will be a DT cause there are none left and they have no choice there either. They can’t wait.
So WR, RB and TE go to the 5th and 6th rounds. Awesome.
