I'm no Kaep fan, for sure, both on the field and especially not a fan of his ******** and his choice to kneel.Originally posted by CivilBolt View Post
Not as a QB but as one of the coaching staff. I guess he declined and still wants to play. I’ll pass on him since his 2013 & 2014 stats were horrific
But to be fair, my understanding is that it was proven he was conspired against by the owners and thus his lack of opportunity to play was not necessarily a reflection of his ability to play. If that's right, I'd say there's a chance he can help but I still wouldn't call it a viable chance."The best defense is more offense."

"Roster voids", "holes"? BS. We're overstocked at every position and have to cut 37 football players.Originally posted by Ghost of Quacksaw View Post
I could see Hortiz making as many as four waiver claims in an effort to fill roster voids, and releasing four players that are upgrade candidates. The new players may not be any better than he old ones, but they'll fill current needs better than the guys who get cut do.
Joe will be spackling holes in the drywall for some time to come.
There will be occasional opportunities to upgrade depth all year. Starters- rarely, very rarely.
At the cut to 53 I'd guess less than 4 How Joe Blow fits can be an issue.
No one is cutting their best players at reduction time and the concept that any of our starters are garbage is garbage.
Hortiz best bet will be to find maybe a couple depth among the discards.

Kap was a great runner and had a cannon for arm but zero touch.... and his bad attitude we dont need on this young team.....Originally posted by 21&500 View Post

Kaeppie has been out of the league for EIGHT YEARS! Bringing Kaep back and hoping he could play at a decent level would be like ahem, trying to...Originally posted by 21&500 View Post

I'm not surprised.Originally posted by Ghost of Quacksaw View PostCheck this out: This is the Bolts defensive depth chart, and it has a few surprises:
~~~~~
Surprise #1: Tarheeb Still is listed at CB, not safety. I had been under the impression that he was being groomed to eventually replace Alohi Gilman.
Surprise #2: A.J. Finley is ahead of Tony Jefferson, backing up Derwin James. The probability is that youth is going to be served here. If so, good on A.J. Finley for stepping up.
Surprise #3: Hard to believe, based on what we've seen, that J.T. Woods could be ahead of anyone, but he currently stands as ther club's SS2. I have the feeling that Joe Hortiz will cut a bunch of DBs (Walton, Dent, Harper, Woods, Kennedy, Phillips, Jefferson and Hankins), and re-claim a couple that clear waivers.
1. It's early.
2. Minter has his own thoughts.
* Harbaugh and Minter will make D cuts. Hortiz will rubber stamp their wishes.
People tend to forget about Kapernick's play on the field and how that impacted his career. His last two seasons:
Played in 21 games, started 19.
Record as a starter: 3-16
Less than 60% completion rate each year
22 passing TDs over both years
sacked 64 times or 1 in every 10 drop backs over both years
had ONE game winning drive in two seasons
Kaperick is not playing because he is not a good QB. The activism didn't help at the time, but in today's super woke NFL, that is probably the only reason his name comes up now. Otherwise he is a 37 yr old who was once, a long time ago, a mediocre QB on some really good teams with a really good HC. Not sure what he would teach Herbert as a QB coach and I just don't see how he can make a roster as a backup QB on talent and ability. The other stuff Kap is famous for is not going to win any games for our team.
TGLike, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.
He also couldn't read defenses very well.Originally posted by Charge! View Post
Funny, when we drafted Herbert I thought we were getting Kaepernick 2.0. I'm not a college football watcher, I only saw Herbert in the Rose Bowl his senior year. He ran for 3 TDs but do much as a passer. When we drafted him I thought, OK, we're going to get a QB who can burn defenses like Kaepernick did but we'll have to wait for him to develop as a passer, if he does at all. That first game he played against KC, coming off their first SB win, I was blown away by how good Herbert was as a passer. I could scarcely believe what I was watching.
As for whether Kaepernick can or cannot still play QB and/or whether he should or will suit up as Herbert's back up (which I seriously doubt), I'm leaving that up to Harbaugh and his coaching staff. I'm not going to worry about or have angst regarding any personnel decisions or coaching moves because I have faith in Harbaugh.
I wasn't suggesting the Hortiz could find starters on the waiver wire.
I also wasn't suggesting that anyone "cuts their best players at reduction time".
And did I call any of our starters "garbage"? (Spoiler Alert: No, I did not.)
I think you might have been responding to a post other than the one you quoted.
Harbaugh didnt offer him a playr role. He offerd him a coaching role back in JANUARY and Keapernick hasnt gotton back to him and in fact, is putting out there he wants to play so id guess......he is OUT for us in either capacity. Our staff is set.Originally posted by Velo View PostAs for whether Kaepernick can or cannot still play QB and/or whether he should or will suit up as Herbert's back up (which I seriously doubt), I'm leaving that up to Harbaugh and his coaching staff. I'm just saying I'm not sweating whatever decision Harbaugh makes. I'm cool with whatever he decides to do or not to do.Originally posted by Boltjolt View Post
