i would rotate KLS and TH going deep. there is nothing more exciting than Herbert throwing the long bomb.

Fouts and Rivers are my all-time chargers, but Herbert launching the long bomb is the most exciting play i have ever seen from a chargers QB.

      Thats a fair take.

But again, my takes are not based on one play but a greater body of evidence.

We have 2 good looking young receivers that specialize in downfield throws and come into the NFL with exceptonal 60% + contested catch rates

I remember something about Dan saying a long pick was as good as a punt.

I didn't realize the primary covering CB actually got a finger on it to tip it at the last second. That changed my view 180, I apologized to Q. Yes that CB also interfered (jersey pull) but it was fairly minor and almost always a non-call unless you're QB is someone famous named Patrick, especially if CB also gets a finger on the ball.

That late hit by the (I assume) safety was blatantly obviously illegal, wicked, and despicable. to do that in a preseason game is not excusable. absolutely NO EXCUSE for him to target Q's helmet like that after the ball already had gone by, there was plenty of time as you note.
Tip aside...in general...as I have said QBs cannot be perfect on 40-50 yard throws they make, often under pressure. Any good downfield receiver is capable of making adjustments to the ball...and while QJ was ok on that play it is not something he has been very good at

Rattler was horrible last year, he needs a big jump in performance. its as good a QB name as there is, thats a start.

Fans making hard decisions based on limited reps by backups playing against other backups in games neither team schemes for and is more interested in running specific things just to see them or players ... yeah, that may not be optimal. But hey - we were making the same hard decisions and predictions before they even put on pads, so its better, right? lol ...
Well thinking who will be a future HOFer or who will beat who out from no pads.being on doing 7 on 7 and no real blocking or pass rushing , no hitting. ....kinda dumb, no?

Its why I don't pay hardly any attention to those practices.

True some of his catches were blown coverage, but that is the same as the majority of receivers in the NFL. He made steps from year 1, had decent but not great stats, and he needs to build on it further if he wants a serious second contract either here or somewhere else. he last LVR game he was phenomenal, too many games he was not. HOU erased him from the playoff game with their best CB1 (who is a very good CB).

He worked hard again this off-season, I saw tapes of him all off-period working. "the play" on Saturday doesn't tell us where he is now as he starts Season 3, other than recovering from a rung bell. Those that disbelieve will see a drop and assume more of the worst, those more charitable (fair) will recognize it was one pass that had a last second finger tip by the CB.
QJ can work has hard as he wants, he will never be the best X receiver on this team. With the skills he is alredy displaying, just imagine where KLS will be ina year. Harris also.

Probably. Not into "never". Surprises happen.

DD is not a very good WR and is only 160-170lbs so he cannot tke many hits.... he is a pure PR and gadget guy

Harris and KLS are much better WR's....even QJ is a better WR than DD....

Personally I would just rather see them work to QJ's strengths like YAC rather than hoping he improves at the weak part of his game 2 years in and countng. There are now 2 WR options who play a downfield role more naturally.

                      Sounds reasonable.

Its really all I have been trying to say

I like QJ and want him to do well, not a hater. I just want the WR group to be used to its maximum potential...and that involves putting each player in their most natural, effective roles

agree.... but since he improved so much in second year, coaches are hoping he can improve that deep ball tracking also....which would be great!
