No one says Max makes the team better or is good for the culture like they say this about Mack as the reason to resign him for a big contract. When Mack is being double teamed in a playoff game and only gets an assisted tackle in a losing effort, it's time to think about replacing a 35 year old Edge player that is half the player he used to be, especially if you could use his money for a Center or OG!

Mack does allow Tuli and Oweh the ability to do things because he is so good on the edge, taking on double teams, getting sacks in high numbers has never been his game. So his "dirty work" helps the other players

That said, if there are other options out there -- Hortiz needs to look at them. Same as OLine. I am open to other players not named Linderbaum or McGovern or Edwards or Johnson - but they might be better options at C and OG

They key thing is Hortiz has to nail it - whatever decisions, health willing - he has to nail this offseason
      That is well said

This is an important off season, and its a big picture that all has to fit together within the cap. I am open to Mack being part of it, just not as the top priority or at any price

One drafted top tier DT transforms our entire defense.

Keep Oweh & Mack, as indicated by O'Leary.

Returning all at LB, DB has the benefit of being solid at communicating coverages, amongst other things.

This leaves rounds 2,3,4,7 to reinforce IOL and get a TE, plus there is midround depth at these positions.

This draft speaks in tongues to our needs, and it is that simple.

And it is all academic prior to UFA signings

I am open to a lot of stuff happening this off-season. Trulyu -- I want Linderbaum but if he gets Cade Mays and a solid OG and the line is close to top 10-12 -- that will work.

That is fair. We have to get something done on IOL in free agency though. Leaving the biggest weakness on this team that holds back the entire offense to the draft is way too risky

Keenan and Ladd were doing some media together at Super Bowl media row today. Keenan talking like he is going to be back in LA. Both sound excited about MM

Doesn't he live in LA in the off-season

                Matt Money Smith said it
                even the GAC guys said
Allen should not be a priority for the Chargers
Now maybe post draft, if the OTAs, minicamps, training camp, shows the team needs a WR , like this past year, fine
But I think they can get better in free agency. Same with Perryman - time to move on.

I think the #55 is the ideal spot for a very good DT.

If we manage to retain Oweh and Mack, it may come down to Linderbaum in Zion out.

The magic spreadsheet says the Chargers can afford all four players and extend Tuli even. Plus sign a WR or TE that will have a cap hit of up to 8-10m per year

We'll see what Hortiz does. He has some tightwad in him, in spite of cap room.

There's only a few players I don't want to retain, and that is mostly about scheme fit and McD. I could certainly live with all your moves B4K.

Now, a year from now, there probably won't be the excess cap space if they spend on getting the right guys this year - but thats totally okay. One reason i want Zion to be the fit at the right price is he is 27 years old - so you can have him and Alt and Slater and this presumptive OC. Maybe it is Luke Fortner - he is only 26 in May. So maybe while everybody is talking Linderbaum if the tape don't lie for Fortner - he could be a guy that maybe you get at say 30/3 - betting big on him if the SAints can't bring him back. But now you have 4/5ths of your Oline, add a draft pick or even Penning and thats a group you can have for a few years

Again, all in the tape and scheme fit - so Mike McD - get up at 4am and start grinding over that tape of Oline candidates!
