That is PART of the solution, a better offense...but any offense requires competent blocking....any QB does and any RB does

maybe you are right, but maybe it is a bad scheme/bad coaching and also having a center that just lets guys run right by him?.... so Zion did not know who he was supposed to block??Originally posted by Jack Burton View Post
Why is it that having to put All Pro’s around Zion should be some priority? He’s still going to be really expensive. Just spend the money on a G who’s expensive AND good.

You misread. I am not hanging it on Zion. You may have noticed i am leaning to keeping Zion...but that will also require the going rateOriginally posted by Factotum View Post
To hang Herbert getting destroyed as you put it on Zion is quite unfair. I don't think that is specifically what you had meant but that is how your post is inferred. Boze and Mekhi Becton were truly the most odious starters on that 2025 OL in addition to the injuries to the starting tackles and the revolving door of subs. Why not have some more trust in the new OC and the OL coaches?

The Athletic ranked Zion #2 ranked FA guard, Edwards #3Originally posted by Jack Burton View Post
I’d rather pay the going rate to a player I know isn’t going to get Herbert destroyed again.
If they are going to give Zion a “Fries” contract (88 MIL), why not just pay Edward’s that money?
If the Chargers sign Zion to a contract like Fries or Banks, and there’s zero reason to think his agent can’t do something similar cause apparently bad G’s are being paid waaay too much in this market, then the Chargers will have $114 MIL with an injury prone Slater, around $80 MIL with a mediocre Zion, and another boat load of coin in a FA C.
I dunno, man. I see this specific situation as a bad talking point next offseason.
Is Edwards really a huge upgrade over the player Harbaugh knows and loves?
Or sign Edwards as the other guard and draft a center

So for all 4 seasons he’s been a mediocre guard cause of everything else around him but it’s not Zion? He now just doesn’t know what to do about anything?Originally posted by Charge! View Post

Also, I’m fine with bringing back Zion but that contract is a pittance of what these other Guards are getting and his agent won’t let that happen cause there’s a sucker team out there.

Zion has not lived up to his first round draft status but I don't think he is as bad as you suggest. Not playing beside the worst center in the league might help. There was a 6 week stretch last year he played very good guard. There could be ceiling left, he certainly has the physical traitsOriginally posted by Jack Burton View Post

I am just getting my head around that JH2 want Zion back and will likely get him signed

Personally, I prefer Edwards to Zion but I prefer Linberbaum or a strong starting OC to both of themOriginally posted by Jack Burton View Post

And the thing is, with the Chargets cap - they can afford both players and Oweh, and Tuli through 2027. They have the cap space. Now next year at this time, they probably won't have a lot of cap space - but thats okay - if they build it right this offseason

I prefer Edwards too but he is 3 years older and is not some Pro Bowler. He is not a massive upgrade, a mild one maybe and you will probably have to bid more for him.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

I just went back to my spreadsheet and just looking ahead to 2027 -- screw it - bring back Zion and go get Linderbaum -- get your DL or Edge in R1 or trade back.
strike this year - have the cap space - be judicious with it but strike now and try to build up the IOL while hitting on key players on defense
