I'm all for getting younger and putting serious draft capital into the O-line this offseason, I'd rather they do that than pay any veterans top dollar but I know that approach won't be popular here either, but in order to fill a two player gap is already asking way too much from the draft, having to fill a 3 player gap is guaranteed that the team will be paying a verteran G or C in free agency, so the question remains. Who are the best ones available and no question that Zion is on that list, we already know him and he's durable so it makes sense to me that they'd want him back...
He's really not, don't forget becton flammed out as a first round pick with the jets, then balled out on the eagles, so far zion hasn't balled out, he just look the most passable because he was sandwiched between deculas and bozeman, so by proxy he looked better, But for as long as he's been on the team he hasn't warranted any type of play to be excited or hopefully about, his only good quality is he can get down field pretty fast. In pass pro stunts whoop his ass, and he's constantly getting displaced by lineman, Ask alt how his ankle felt after zion got bitched by his defender leading to Alts injury.
IMO we need to get at least 2 lineman in FA and 1 in the draft at minimum, if we don't address this line play it won't matter if you had prime calvin, randy and rice, herbert wouldn't be able to get them the ball because he's getting murdered, last season he got beat up more than Andrew luck. That's not all of zions fault but he was 1 of the 3 whose fault it is.

The player - I think the consensus is happy to see not on the roster
The person - he did seem like a good guy, good in the community, respected by teammates

One can have two takes about the same person and neither are wrong. I wish him well in retirement - hope its a good one. But I am also glad he will not be on the team
Yeah he seemed like a chill dude and he did stick up for herbie against the saints on the dirty hit,
But I just can't get past his play, I hope he lives a good life, but this isn't a retirement I'm sad about at all

That is a sentiment charger1993 that I agree with. I wish him well in retirement but they needed to upgrade the position for sure No excuses for Hortiz not too

With the caveat that Zion, Oweh and Mack are back -- I think Hortiz has two paths for IDL and C

        1) big money guy like Linderbaum and probably Hand is back

        2) lesser money Center like Fortner, maybe Mays but an IDL like Jonathan Franklin Meyers. If the Dline can get more pass rush - would be excellent for the D

With the Chargers, we think post Boze at close to $88m and probably over $100m after Becton , Dupree and perhaps Dissly - no friggin excuses for Hortiz. NONE

As for Zion , the GAC guys said he wasn't as bad as fans thought -- the revolving door at LT plus the poor play at Center - I keep saying about Zion - he fits the timeline thats for sure. But the Hortiz and the coaches need to be accurate and correct in assessing his play and value. I am good with Zion at 68/4, if structured correctly to make the math work to still allow OC - if they deem him the right fit. I know David Edwards would be solid.
Im better at 4/48....and im giving him more than i want to there.

OL free agent additions that fit McDaniel offense

            Center E.Pocic

            Guard S.Rhyan

            Guard C.Strange
Who has it better than us?

I have just resigned myself that the market is going up for OG and Zion will be the beneficiary of that. The key for me is the talent there. Not the emotion that the coaches love him, been on the team, don't want to have to flip the entire IOL but is he a good player

I saw on the Sportstalk Chargers podcast (the guy who's a big Lions fan, but he loves Harbaugh and has created a Chargers' focused show) that the Chargers are cutting J.K. Scott. The guy says that this positions the Bolts to get a 6th round compensation pick that they wouldn't have otherwise gotten. Anybody else heard anything about this?

Yeah, but I think the issue is another team will pay him close to $20m if he hits free agency. I don't think he will be back unless he wants to stay with the Chargers. If he wants more than let him walk.
                    1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
                    2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
                    3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
                    4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Jenkins (OG- 12m)

Popper reported last week the Chargers could be in line for a 6th round comp pick because of the Dobbins signing by the Broncos.

But cutting JK Scott doesn't affect the comp pick - it would be 2.8m in cap savings. I don't necessarily want to cut Scott - I do want competition for him

Miami has 5-6 IOL that will be free agents. McD has a good handle on these guys. I could where a few could come over as depth or starters.

I didn't realize that. So he would not be on Hortiz list.

Guess that means it's Linderbaum for center.
If Ravens offered him 19-21m range. Hortiz could offer same but 1 more year and more guaranteed money.
                          5y/105m 75mil guaranteed. 25mil sign bonus.
